光を求めて──いじめに苦しんだ私の物語4　　

　宮田先生はいきなりこういったのだ。
「洋子の家は、英語でいえば、トイレクリーニング屋ってところかな。日本語でいえば便所屋だなあ。どうりで臭せえと思っていたけど、便所屋だからしょうがねえよな」
　またみんながどっと笑った。私は心のなかで、絶望の声を上げていた。なんという紹介の仕方なのだろうか。

「いいか、社会というものはな、洋子の親父のような職業があるから、ちゃんと機能していくんだ。便所屋がこなかったからどうなる。トイレがパンクするだろうが。パンクしたら町中臭くてかなわんわな。社会の底辺では、いろんな人間が、いろんな仕事をしている。だから職業をあれが上だ、これが下だなんていう差別の目でみてはいかん。洋子の親父さんは、この町のもっとも臭いところを支えている尊敬すべき人なんだ。洋子がちょっとぐらい臭いからって、みんなもからかうんじゃねえよ」

　私は立上がり、先生！　と叫んでいた。
「先生、どうして、洋子ちゃんが臭いんですか。そんなのは嘘です。洋子ちゃんの家にいったことがありますか。洋子ちゃんの家は、いつも花が一杯です。玄関にも、塀のところにも、一年中花を咲かせています。それは洋子ちゃんのお母さんが、毎日毎日丹念に育てているからです。洋子ちゃんのお母さんは、こういいました。家の前を通る人が、ちょっとでも花をみて幸福になってくれればうれしいわねって。洋子ちゃんの家は、そういう家です。私は先生は間違っていると思います。どんな職業も大切であり、どんな職業についても人は平等であるならば、もっと尊敬した説明のしかたをすべきです。便所屋だとか臭いだとかいういい方は、先生こそ差別しているからではありませんか。私は先生にお願いしたいことがいっぱいあります」

　そのとき、私の胸のなかにたまっていたものが、なにか爆発するように噴き出していったのだ。

Mr. Miyata suddenly said,
"Yoko's house, in English, would be a toilet cleaning shop. In Japanese, it would be a toilet shop. No wonder I thought it would stink, but it can't be helped because it's a toilet shop."
Everyone burst into laughter again. In my heart, I cried out in despair. What kind of introduction is that?

"Listen, society has a job like Yoko's father, so it will function properly. What will happen if the toilet shop doesn't come? The toilet will go flat. At the bottom of society, there are many different types of people doing all kinds of jobs.Therefore, we shouldn't discriminate against one's occupation by saying that one is superior or one is inferior.Yoko's father is the man in this town. He's a respectable person who supports the most stinky part of her.You shouldn't make fun of Yoko just because she stinks a bit."

I rise, sir! was shouting.
"Teacher, why does Yoko-chan stink? That's a lie. Have you ever been to Yoko-chan's house? Yoko-chan's house is always full of flowers. The flowers are blooming all year round.That's because Yoko's mother takes care of them every day.Yoko's mother said, Everyone who walks by the house sees a little flower. Yoko's house is like that.I think you're wrong.Every profession is important, and people are equal in every profession. If that's the case, you should explain it in a more respectful way. If you say things like the toilet shop or it stinks, isn't it because the teacher is discriminating?　I have a lot of things I want to ask you."

At that moment, something that had accumulated in my chest erupted like an explosion.
