Today's kanji is roku(六). So, let's start by explaining a little more about the word.

This kanji means number six. There is a popular town called Roppongi(六本木) in Tokyo, Japan. It’s used as the first kanji in the word.

This kanji has 4 lines.

Before I draw these kanji, I will first prepare a kanji box. Imagine that your kanji are inside an invisible square box. This box will stop you drawing your kanji too big or too small.

First, line 1 is a very short vertical line. Draw it around the center at the top of the kanji ‘box’.
Line 2 is a horizontal line. Draw it under line 1 from left to right, and connect it to the bottom of line 1.
Line 3 is a curving diagonal line. Draw it from right to left under the bottom left side of line 2.
Line 4 is a straight diagonal line. Draw it from left to right under the bottom right side of line 2.

Roku(六) is complete!

By the way, now that I’ve shown you how to draw roku(六), you can also draw the kanji for hachi (八), which means number 8. It’s really easy. Just draw lines 3 and 4 of roku(六) but make them a little larger. Like this!
