Today's kanji is "Mori." So, let's start by explaining a little more about the word...

If you watch today’s video, you will be able to write 3 kanji. Because all 3 kanji include a basic kanji called "木(ki)". The kanji that you can write using ”木" are ”木”,”林(hayashi)" and "森(mori)".

"木” means tree. "Ki" also has the meaning Thursday, but we won’t focus on that today. "林" means grove. 2 trees are drawn in this kanji. "森" means forest. 3 trees are drawn in this kanji.

Additionally, if you can write "木", it will be easy to write other kanji like ”本(hon)”,”村(mura)" and "桜(sakura)”. But today, we will only look at 3 kanji.

First, let’s move on to writing the kanji for ”ki”. This kanji is drawn using 4 lines.

Before I draw these kanji, I will first prepare a kanji box. Imagine that your kanji are inside an invisible square box. This box will stop you drawing your kanji too big or too small.

We start by drawing a cross. This kanji is called "十(jyu)”. Next, draw a slanting line from the center of the cross to the lower left corner. Finally, draw a similar slanting line from the center to the lower right corner.

"Ki(木)” is complete!!

Second, let's move on to writing the kanji for "hayashi(林)”. This kanji is drawn using 8 lines. We write this kanji by drawing 2 “ki(木)” kanji next to each other.

"Hayashi” is complete!!

Finally, let's move on to writing the kanji for "mori(森)". This kanji is drawn using 12 lines. First, we draw a small "ki(木)". Under the squashed "ki(木)", we draw "hayashi(林)".

"Mori(森)" is complete!!

I guess that you thought that was easy. Actually, it’s easy if you can write "ki(木)".
