具体例

ex. Let's meet at ten. 「10時に会いましょう」

時間を時間軸の流れの中のある１「点」として考えるから「at」を使います。時計って針が時間を「指し示め」していますよね。

１ at night

He came home very late at night.
「彼は夜遅く帰ってきた」

 朝は「in the morning」で「in」を使いますが、夜は「at」なのに注意しましょう。at night「夜に」

２ at noon

She finally emerged from her room at noon.
「彼女は正午にようやく部屋から出てきた」

正午は「12」時ぴったりですよね。時計の針がピッタリ指し示しているイメージです。at noon「正午に」

３at midnight

The election results will be announced at midnight.
「選挙結果は深夜に発表される」

「at night」の派生と考えると覚えやすいのではないでしょうか！
at midnight「夜中12時に」

４ at dusk

The street lights go on at dusk.
「街灯は夕暮れ時に点灯する」

「dusk」も「at」を使うことができます。at dusk「日暮れに、夕暮れに」

５ at dawn

I woke up at dawn.
「夜明けに目が覚めた」

dawn「夜明け」という意味です。こちらも派生として覚えておきましょう。at dawn「夜明けに」/ 他にもat sunrise、at sunsetなども使えます。

６ at Christmas

At Christmas the stores stay open late.
「クリスマスになると、店は遅くまで開いている」

クリスマスも「at」を使うことができます。at Christmas「クリスマスに」

７ at present

At present we have no evidence of life on other planets.
「現在のところ、他の惑星に生命が存在するという証拠はない」

「現在」という時間の「点」においてと考えましょう。at present「現在は」/ 今のところというニュアンスがある

８ at the moment

The house is being built at the moment.
「家は現在建設中だ」

at the moment「現在」/ 今！！というニュアンスがある

９ at your convenience

The goods will be delivered at your convenience.
「商品はお客様のご都合に合わせてお届けします」

at your convenience「あなたのご都合が良いときに」というよく使う表現。

The children will be closely supervised at all times.
「子供たちは常に厳重に監督される」

at all times「いつも」/ 直訳通りですよね。

１１ at any time

The volcano could erupt at any time.
「火山はいつ噴火してもおかしくない」

at any time「どんな時も」/ これも直訳通りですね。

「すみません、彼女には今、会社があるんです」

at this time「現在、今は」/ これも直訳なので覚えやすい！

at a glance「一目で」/ glanceは「一見、ひと目、ちらりと見ること」という意味
