キャンプをすることへの憧れを持ちながらもう何年も過ぎていた。谷尻誠さんのnoteを通じてMuraco / ムラコというアウトドアブランドの存在を知り、キャンプをやるならMuracoで始めようと密かに心に決めていた。その時、わたしにとってMuracoは「遠い向こう側」に存在するクールなアウトドアブランドだった。
サイボクの同僚達はキャンプを好む者が多い。彼らからキャンプの話を聞くにつれ、わたしのキャンプ熱が徐々に高まっていた。そんなある日わたしは驚愕の事実を知る。あの「遠い向こう側」に存在していたはずのMuracoはわたしの会社から車で5分ほどのところに位置していた。
さらに、代表の村上卓也さんのnoteを読んでもう一度驚くことになった。村上さんとわたしは以前、同じ時期に、同じ会社の、同じフロアで働いていたのだった。
早速アウトドア好きの同僚と一緒に狭山市の工場に併設されたお店へ伺った。所狭しとかっこいいプロダクトが並び、美意識に満ちたお店にワクワクがとまらなかった。こんなかっこいいプロダクトを作るメーカーが近所に存在することに誇らしい思いを抱いた。
これ以上のお膳立てはないはずだ。わたしのキャンプデビューが近づいている。それも「こうありたい」とわたしが願った形で。わたしはジョブズのConnecting The Dotsを思いだした。
こうやって点がつながっていくのを経験するとこんな風に思いたくもなる。
「あの日々は、決して無駄じゃなかった」と。

Many years had passed while I had a longing for camping. Through Makoto Tanijiri's note, I knew about the outdoor brand Muraco. So I secretly decided that if I went camping, I would start with Muraco. At that time, Muraco was a cool outdoor brand on the far side for me.
Many of Saiboku's colleagues like camping. As I heard about camping from them, my camping fever gradually increased. Then, one day, I knew a startling fact. Muraco, which should have existed on the "far side," was located about five minutes by car from my office.
Furthermore, I was surprised again when I read a note from the representative, Takuya Murakami. He and I used to work at the same company, on the same floor, at the same time.
I immediately visited a shop attached to a factory in Sayama City with a colleague who loves the outdoors. I couldn't stop being excited about the store full of aesthetics, with cool products lined up in a cramped space. I was proud to have a manufacturer in my neighbourhood who makes such fantastic products.
The time has come. My camping debut is approaching. It's also in the form I wished for "I want to be like this". It reminded me of "Connecting The Dots" by Jobs. I want to think like this when I experience connecting dots like this.
"Those days weren't wasted."
