David Frankel - Collateral Beauty 〔movie4.〕

白川寧々氏のインスピレーションを受けて毎年この時期の授業では、生徒は自分が英語を話している姿としてのロールモデルが出演する映像を「完コピ」する。

「完コピ」では、英語のラインも演技も全て実際の映像そのものでどこまで再現できているかで評価も行う。

真剣に取り組める生徒ほど実に大変そうだが、その分間違いなく成長するので、3年前から継続している。
毎年新たな発見があり、とても楽しい。

今年はあまりにこのCollateral Beauty（邦題：素晴らしきかな、人生）の冒頭の主人公のスピーチを選んでいる生徒が多かった。

Oh. What is your "why"? Why did you even get out of the bed this morning? Why did you eat what you ate? Why did you wear what you wore? Why did you come here? Other than the fact that I would fire you and hire someone else if you didn't show up for work, but... Not that. The big "why." We're certainly not here to just sell sh*t. We are here to connect. Life is about people. Advertising is about illuminating how our products and services will improve people's lives. Now, how do we do that? Love. Time. Death. Now these three abstractions connect every single human being on Earth. Everything that we covet, everything that we fear not having, everything that we ultimately end up buying is because at the end of the day we long for love, we wish we had more time, and we fear death. Love. Time. Death. Let's begin there.

この映画を、そしてこのスピーチを選んでくるだけでも感動するのに、それを一生懸命練習したりパフォーマンスしている姿をみるとやられる。

Collateral Beauty。個人的に邦題はスルー。Collateral Beauty。

Collateral 、"付帯的な" が一番しっくりくる。

DEATH

Brigitte: [as the personification of Death] Death is so much more vital than Time.
Simon: Right.
Brigitte: Death gives Time all of its value.

TIME

Raffi: [as the personification of Time] Time, they say you heal all wounds, but they don't talk about how you destroy all that's good in the world, how you turn beauty into ash.
Now that's some bullsh*t, Howard.
Now, if love is creation is death is destruction, I'm just the terrain in between. You don't understand Time, no one understands Time. Einstein was close when he said I was just an illusion.

LOVE

Amy: [as the personification of Love] I know you don't believe me, but you have to trust me.
Howard: Trust you? Trust you?
Amy: Yes!
Howard: I *did* trust you! And you betrayed me! I saw you every day in her eyes, and I heard you in her voice when she laughed, and I felt you inside of me when she called me "Daddy." And you betrayed me! You broke my heart.
Amy: No. I'm in all of it. I'm the darkness and the light, I'm the sunshine and the storm. Yes, you're right, I was there in her laugh, but I'm also here now in your pain. I'm the reason for everything. I am the only "why" .Don't try and live without me, Howard. Please don't.
