The ways of learning English and the important events in my life.
The exam for placement took place before enrolling in the university.
The exam was actually "TOEFL" and this was my first time to take the test and it was more difficult than I had expected. Therefore, I answered some questions by guessing...
At the university, I entered the class based on the test result and I realized that it was the highest level... I think my intuition was running high at that time or my pencils know the answers. Actually, some of the boys including me in the class had same thoughts.
"Why am I here?????"
Some of the girls have been to foreign countries to study abroad…
In the class, some students alreay spoke English fluently and expressed their opinions well.
I concentrated on what they were talking about, otherwise I couldn't understand their saying.
However, I did my assignments and prepared for the class in the university's library, on the train and of course, at my room.
However...., I couldn't speak English even after I finished the first semester.
"Why, why, why...?"
"I thought English would come out naturally since I always learned English very hard..., but I can't express my opinions well in English now.
I felt depressed at myself.
One day, when I spent summer vacation, my mother asked me to come with her and accompany her.
We arrived at a "bank". She picked an envelope up from her bag and opened it and paid the tuitions through the bank.
I just thought, "I should study English very, very, very...hard because my parents invested money to me and I should appreciate it…
After that, I considered ways of learning English in my room.
"Why can't my English come out naturally??
If I see English sentences, I can redd and understand what they say and mean...."
"...... !! "
"How did I memorize multiplication tables? I just read the tables aloud over and over again while taking a bath. It is like..., as if my mouth known the multiplication tables!! I should have learn English by reading aloud!! Furthermore, I should learn the pronunciation of English from scratch... If I can pronunce the words, I can catch the words as well. I have learned this fact from the teachers and several books, so... I'll start to practice "th", "v'' and "f" sound as my language does not have those sounds.
As well as practicing the pronunciation, I decided to learn the junior high school grammars by using "mouth" so that my mouth will learn the grammar and English will come out automatically and naturally. Unless I can respond to what others say automatically, I can't communicate with them naturally.
For the above reasons, I learned the sentences including the essential grammars by heart so that I can communicate with others by changing words in the sentence I memorized.
In addition, while memorizing the sentences, I put an emphasis on the feelings, which is useful to reinforce my memorization.
I focused on the above points when leaning English and this improved my English skills a lot after half a year.
