Cairns Trip Day268~277

From 17th September to 26th September

This was my last trip before heading back to Japan, and I decided to spend 8 days in Cairns—alone. Why alone? Because I wanted to take on an adventure, even if it meant facing some risks. lol

I made up my mind to travel solo, without relying on anyone for help. In the end, that worked out perfectly for me. To top it all off, I wanted some time to myself—just because.

There were so many unexpected moments and little dramas along the way, so I’d like to jot them down here.

Gorgeous Market!!!

When I arrived in Cairns, I headed straight to the famous market, where I could buy souvenirs and experience traditional Aussie culture. Every time I visit Cairns city, I run into many Japanese tourists and hear the language, which makes me feel so nostalgic.

In Brisbane, I never really care much about my outfit when going out, but in Cairns, it’s a different story. lol
I was really immersed in authentic Aussie culture there, especially at Rusty’s Market, which is my favorite.

The market is only open from Friday to Sunday, so I went there three days in a row and enjoyed every moment. Rusty’s is always bustling because everything is fresh and affordable. I even bought a bunch of fruits for my breakfast—it was so memorable.

Kuranda

On Day 2, I visited Kuranda, a picturesque village located in the tropical rainforest of Far North Queensland, about 25 kilometers northwest of Cairns. Known for its stunning natural beauty, Kuranda is nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland.

I took the Skyrail on the way there and then rode the famous scenic train on the way back. The beauty of the place, along with its atmosphere, felt like I was in another country—it was truly breathtaking.

I wandered around the town, soaking in the natural beauty and culture, while also taking time to relax. For lunch, I decided to try something adventurous: crocodile and kangaroo meat, which cost $43. lol So expensive! I wasn’t sure if I’d ever try crocodile again, but out of curiosity, I gave it a shot. Surprisingly, it wasn’t bad, but once was enough. lol It wasn’t exactly a taste I fell in love with.

I was able to explore so much in Kuranda and met many of the locals. I’ve already made up my mind to visit again—this time with someone else. I’m totally hooked on Kuranda!

Fitzroy Island

I was torn between choosing Green Island or Fitzroy Island for a couple of days but ended up deciding on Fitzroy Island at the last minute. lol Once I arrived, I was blown away—what a beautiful place! No tall buildings, just surrounded by pure nature: mountains and the ocean. I experienced both, and while both are amazing, I definitely prefer mountains over beaches. I have no regrets about choosing Fitzroy Island—it was the perfect choice for me.

The only downside was the intense sunlight—I couldn’t avoid getting sunburned, but honestly, if the ending is good, everything is fine! I don’t care at all.

I made the most of my time there and enjoyed every bit of the trip, even though it was solo. I’m fully satisfied with this adventure and don’t wish for anything more. Now, I want to make the most of my remaining two months in Australia and finish my final duty as a teacher on a high note.
