英語ガイドアドバイザーの Kazu（金田憲昭：かねだかづあき） です。
「子どもの手が離れたら、英語を使って新しいことに挑戦したい」
そんな想いを持つ方を対象に、英語力の土台をしっかり構築し、アウトプット力や英語ガイドに必要なスキルを習得、3年間で英語ガイドとして活躍できる力を育成するサポートを提供しています。
（私自身も現役英語ガイドとして、日本酒を中心に日本の魅力を海外の方に伝える活動もしています。）
Tour Conductor Training
It's 9:26pm now.
今は午後9時26分です。
I'm standing on the platform at Himeji Station, waiting for the 9:36 train bound for Osaka. You might be wondering why I'm heading there so late.
姫路駅のホームに立ち、9時36分発の大阪行きの電車を待っています。こんなに遅くに大阪へ向かう理由を不思議に思うかもしれませんね。
The reason is simple—I have a tour conductor training session in Umeda tomorrow morning.
理由はシンプルです。明日の朝、梅田で添乗員の研修があるからです。
The session starts quite early, and since I live in Himeji, making the trip in the morning would be a challenge.
研修は朝早く始まるので、姫路に住んでいる私にとって朝に移動するのは大変です。
Waking up around six and commuting all the way to Osaka in the freezing cold doesn’t sound ideal.
朝6時頃に起きて、凍えるような寒さの中、大阪まで通うのはあまり気が進みません。
More importantly, I’m not entirely confident that I’d even wake up on time.
それ以上に、自分が時間通りに起きられるかどうかも自信がありません。
Even if I did manage to drag myself out of bed, there’s always a chance of JR line delays.
仮に何とかベッドから出られたとしても、JRの遅延の可能性は常にあります。
If everything goes wrong at once, it could turn into a nightmare, and I’d risk missing this valuable opportunity.
もしすべてが悪い方向に重なれば、それは悪夢のような状況になり、大切な機会を逃してしまうかもしれません。
To avoid that stressful scenario, I decided to stay overnight in Sannomiya instead.
そんなストレスのある状況を避けるため、今夜は三宮に泊まることにしました。
You might be wondering again why I’m not staying in Osaka itself.
なぜ大阪に泊まらないのか、またまた不思議に思うかもしれませんね。
Again, the answer is simple—Sannomiya is more economical.
またまた答えはシンプルです。三宮の方が経済的だからです。
I compared the costs and found that staying there would be much friendlier to my wallet.
宿泊費を比較したところ、三宮に泊まる方が財布に優しいと分かりました。
The training will last for two days, so I'll be staying in Sannomiya tomorrow night as well.
研修は2日間あるので、明日も三宮に泊まる予定です。
I can already tell the session will be intense and demanding, so I have a mix of excitement and nervousness.
研修がハードで大変なものになるのは容易に想像できるので、楽しみな気持ちと緊張が入り混じっています。
It’s been a while since I last felt this indescribable anticipation.
この何とも言えない期待感を感じるのは久しぶりです。
Actually, I alrady have a certification as a qualified tour conductor, but I earned it before the pandemic in 2019.
実は、すでに添乗員の資格を持ってはいますが、それを取得したのは2019年、パンデミック前のことです。
A lot of what I learned has faded over time, so I’m approaching this training as if I’m starting from scratch.
学んだことの多くが時間とともに薄れてしまったので、今回の研修はゼロから学ぶつもりで受けます。
After this training, I’m going to challenge myself by working as a tour conductor, serving as both a guide and an escort for groups of foreign tourists."
この研修の後、外国人観光客のグループのガイドと添乗員の両方を務める仕事に挑戦します。
I believe this experience will help me grow into a more well-rounded and versatile English guide, which is one of the goals I’ve set for myself this year.
この経験が、よりバランスの取れた多才な英語ガイドへと成長する助けになると信じています。それは、今年自分自身に課した目標の一つです。
Once I complete the two-day session on Wednesday, I’ll be heading straight to Kyoto that evening.
水曜日にこの2日間の研修を終えたら、その夜は京都へ直行します。
A tour guide acquaintance kindly invited me to a meetup event he’s hosting there.
ツアーガイドをされている知人が、主催するミートアップイベントに親切にも招待してくれました。
The event is for people involved in tourism for foreigners, so I’m looking forward to meeting others who share my passion.
そのイベントは訪日外国人向けの観光業に携わる人々のためのもので、同じ情熱を持つ人たちに会うのを楽しみにしています。
I can already picture myself arriving back in Himeji late at night, feeling exhausted.
夜遅くに姫路へ戻り、疲れ果てている自分の姿が目に浮かびます。
I hope this exhaustion comes with a sense of fulfillment, along with plenty of new insights and connections.
この疲労が、充実感と新たな気づきやつながりと共にあることを願っています。
By the time you read this, I’ll probably be feeling a bit relieved after wrapping up day one of the session.
あなたがこれを読む頃には、1日目の研修を終えて少しホッとしている頃でしょう。
