Thoughts on movies 2024/12/21

i watched the movie "Radical." the movie is set in a city near the Mexican border. public order is the worst. the economy is also at its worst. both adults and children will do their best to survive today. young carers are a matter of course. some children make a living by picking up trash, while others, whose older brother is a member of the mafia, somehow realize that their school baggage is being used to deliver drugs, but continue to pretend not to know. the only elementary school in such a city is called the school of punishment. in the first impressive scene, the principal tells the students in the morning assembly. "silence is the beginning of obedience. obedience is the beginning of discipline, and discipline is the beginning of education." however, not only students but also teachers are not motivated, and the school gets the lowest grade in the annual national academic ability test. for this reason, the principal has to say that he will give bonuses to teachers who have improved their grades. in addition, although the pc room was built four years ago, not only pcs but also devices and codes that could be used were stolen in two months, and students have never even touched the internet. at such a school, a teacher came to work on behalf of a teacher who retired after childbirth. that was the beginning of everything.this teacher doesn't punish anyone and ignores the curriculum. he just inspires students to think for themselves, to try to gain knowledge, and to experience the joy of exploring. i like what he said to the students on the first day. "there are some very good students around the world, some of them have artistic talent, and some of them may be able to make robots. compared to that, you guys don't even have a pc. there is no internet here. there aren't even books in the school library. and the teacher can't answer your questions. but that doesn't matter. you all already have what you need for your future. that's a possibility. but neither the teachers nor your parents can decide whether or not to use it, nor can they force you to use it. it's up to you to decide."this movie doesn't go happy from beginning to end. the reason why the school has not been equipped with pcs is because the city's parliament illegally used subsidies from the government. a female student lives by picking up trash, but she has excellent academic ability and dreams of studying space engineering and becoming an astronaut in the future. the teacher hands the materials for the special class for the female student, but her father told the teacher, "no matter how much the teacher injects ideals into the students and makes them dream, their reality will not change. please don't do anything unnecessary." a student who tells his brother who is one of  members of  the mafia that he wants to stop leaving school to join the mafia and continue going to school, is on the way from school for the first time with a girl he likes, and other mafia members came to force him to join the mafia, and they tried to kidnap and rape her. he tried to stop it and ended up shooting, which eventually killed him. the incident and the shock of the student's death led to the refusal of a female student who had left school with her or a student who happened to pass by, and the teacher himself said he would resign from teaching because he felt guilty about the loss of a student's life. a young carer, but interested in philosophy, learning about the fun of reading, and dreaming of becoming a teacher, is told to quit school because she has to take care of her new sister, baby, so that her mother can work soon after childbirth. that's right. they were never able to sail smoothly. nevertheless, as one teacher continues to face the students and tells them the importance of facing life themselves, they realize that they have the right to develop their own future, which may have become adults just to survive in a lethargic fashion. it is said that this movie is based on a true story. in that case, other teachers should be able to do it.
a teacher must not be the boss of the students. teachers should not be afraid to tell their students that they are just people who have weak points, things they don't know, things they arn't good at, things they don't like. believing in the possibilities within each of the students. be sure to be on their side when students want to develop their own potential. i don't think there's anything else a teacher should do. it's something you can do without being a teacher to teach students knowledge, to teach them acting under the rules, and to discipline them. there is no key to whether teachers can brighten students' futures. make it clear to students that there is always one adult who believes in their potential and supports them. that's the true meaning of teaching, and that's why teaching is a difficult and challenging job.

actor Eugenio Delbez, who starred in the movie, played the role of a teacher (a chorus adviser) in "Coda" in the past, but this time he plays the role of a teacher who confronts his weaknesses and works hard with his students.
