Thoughts on Movies 2025/01/05

released in 2012, the world-renowned musical film "Les Miserables" was re-released digitally remastered and remixed, so i went to watch it. of course, i knew the story, the cast, and the music. i used to read the original and watch musicals in Japan a long time ago. each one was wonderful. however, watching this movie forced me to re-evaluate this work. the actors' great performances, and the heart-stopping songs and music. i think i've forgotten for a long time that music is such an emotional thing.
when i read the original book and watched the musical, my sympathy was only with Fontaine, who had disappeared without seeing her daughter, and Epoenine, who had lost her life for Marius, who didn't love her. but now that i have grown up and learned that there are many forms of love, and that sometimes there are more things that move people than love (friendship, justice, belief, responsibility), my heart sees that students who have devoted their lives to a free future, Jean Valjean, who once hated God and the world ,then lived to be a better man, but had had his  lonely soul till his death, and Javerue who did'nt know there're many way the right thing goes on and whose belief of sinner as  sinner forever broken by Jean Valjean he had tried to catch and treat under the low.
it was in the nineteenth century that Victor Hugo wrote the book, and the people still did not enjoy the full and bright freedom. therefore, this story was about each person desperately seeking "love and justice" to believe in tomorrow's hope, even though they were overwhelmed by their own suffering. perhaps the reason why these stories strike us as we live in the present is because we are now in a time when we cannot think about people's happiness, freedom, abundance, or future on a national level, and as inequality and division progresses at all levels, we are also struggling to endure the weight and pain of our days. while there is no hope for tomorrow.
