La Vie de Bohème - "my new composition" scene

＜La Vie de Bohème＞ 1992

The movie " La vie de Bohème" is loosely based on the novel by Henri Murger in 1851. The movie was directed by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki. In this movie, there are no famous actors or actresses, but the cast acted so lovely and they won several awards such as Best Actor and Best supporting Actor Prizes. This film is in French.

The movie is set in modern day in Paris. it was also filmed in Paris and the suburbs of Paris. The movie was made in Black and White, and it gives a timeless impression.

The story is about the life of bohemian artists. Marx, a playwright, is evicted from his modest room. when he is roaming the streets, he meets Rodolfo, a painter from Albania. They get along well quickly. They go to the room where Marx was living and they meet Schaunard, the new tenant and an avant-garde musician. He invites Marx and Rodolfo to drink together then they become close friends right way. They talk about art, shere food, help each other to survive everyday and sometimes cheat people to get a little money...

 One day, Rodolfo meets Mimi, a French girl, and he falls madly in love. However she has boyfriend and Rodolfo is deported to Albania because of a visa problem.  Later, he comes back to Paris. Mimi shows up and informs him  that she has left her boyfriend to be with him and she is ill and will die next spring... The movie finishes when she dies in the hospital, with playing an old Japanese song " Yuki no fury machi wo （雪の降る街を）"

I strongly recommend this movie but not only this one, all of Kaurismaki's movies. This movie looks sad but he always directs with a lot of humor and love. I feel his movies are always like human anthems 😘

＜ラ・ヴィ・ド・ボエーム＞

映画 ”ラ・ヴィ・ド・ボエーム ” は、アンリ・ミュルジェールの１８５１年の小説に基づいて、フィンランド人監督、アキ・カウリスマキによって作られました。有名な役者は出ていませんが、キャストの素敵な演技が評価されて、ベスト主演賞、ベスト助演賞など様々な賞を受賞しています。全編フランス語です。

近代のパリが舞台で、パリやその郊外で撮影されていますが、白黒で撮られていることもあり、時代を感じさせない不思議な雰囲気です。

物語は、ボヘミアンな芸術家たちの日々が舞台です。家賃が払えず小さな部屋を追い出された劇作家であるマルクスは、街をフラフラとさまよっている時にアルバニア人画家のロドルフォに出会います。二人はすぐに仲良くなって、マルクスが住んでいた部屋にゆきます。すると、そこで出てきたのは、新しい入居者のショナール。彼は、アバンギャルドな音楽家。せっかくやってきたマルクスとロドルフォを部屋に迎え入れて、一緒に飲むことにしました。彼らはすっかり仲良くなって、その日から、芸術について語り合ったり、食べ物を分けあったり、時にはご飯代を稼ぐために人を騙したりもしながら、お互いに助け合って生きるようになりました。ある日、ロドルフォはフランス人のミミに出会い、恋に落ちます。でも、ミミには恋人がいて、ロドルフォはビザの問題でアルバニアに強制送還させられてしまいます。それからしばらく。ロドルフォがパリに戻ったことを知り、ミミは恋人と別れ、一緒になりたいと彼のもとに現れました。でも、病気で、春には死んでしまうかもしれないと。。。古い日本の歌「雪の降る街を」が流れ、彼女が病院で無くなるところで映画は終わります。

この映画だけでなく、カウリスマキの映画を全部、お勧めします。悲しい物語に見えるかもしれませんが、カウリスマキの演出はいつも、ユーモアと愛に溢れていて、全ての人が愛おしく。いろいろあるけど、やっぱり人間に生まれてきてよかったなあ、と思えるのです。
