大学という名のエコシステム
またお会いできて嬉しいです！
今日は、私が最近感じていることをお話します。
クォーターが終わりに近づくにつれ、キャンパスツアーでUWを訪れる人が最近増えてきました。
基本的には高校生なのですが、たまに中学生に見える人もいます。
そういう人たちを見るたびに、大学というのは一種の生態系なんだなあとつくづく思います。
今UWにいる学生が年をとるとともに、新たな若い人たちがUWで学ぼうと準備を進めていくんだと思います。
今日、高校でいつものようにチューターのボランティアをしました。

ある生徒によると、自分がその高校で働き始めるちょうど直前にキャンパスツアーでUWに訪れたとのことでした。
それを聞いたとき、彼らの将来を見据えているその生命力のようなものに感心しました。
私が何か新しいことを始めると、彼らも何かを新たなことを始めるように、
おそらく、私がシアトルを離れた後、彼らの何人かはワシントン大学で学ぶために応募をするでしょう。
この循環を考えると、大学のシステムはエコシステムと非常に近しく思えてきます。

Hi, I am glad to see you again!
Today, I am gonna talk about what I am feeling these days.
As the quarter get closer to its end, the number of people who visit UW as a campus tour has been increasing these days.
Basically, they are high school students but sometimes, they looks like junior high school students.
Whenever I see them, I feel that the university is a kind of ecosystem.
As we get older, younger people become ready to study at UW.
Today, I was at a high school as a volunteer tutor.
One of the students told me that they have been to UW as a campus tour just before I started working at the high school.
When I heard that, I was so impressed because they are looking at the future.
When I start something new, they also try to start something.
Probably, after I leave Seattle, some of them will apply for UW to study.
I feel the system of university is almost the same as ecosystem.
