My Retreat Experience at Kamalaya Koh Samui in Thailand (Part 1)
(This is an English version for my previous blog on my retreat experience. 日本語記事はこちらです)
Earlier, I talked about why I got into wellness retreats. Now, I'd like to share my three-part story about my retreat experience in Thailand last August.
・Kamalaya Koh Samui
I'd been dreaming about checking out Kamalaya Koh Samui even before COVID hit. This place is pretty well-known and has a great rep. I was torn between here and Chiva-Som, which is like the celeb hotspot of wellness retreats. But in the end, I went with Kamalaya because I wanted that island vibe and heard there were fewer Japanese tourists there.
Before booking, I shot Kamalaya a couple of questions. They got back to me super quick and sent over a health form after I booked.
・Why I Went
So, I jetted off solo for a five-day getaway. My goal? Ditch the daily grind and do some serious soul-searching. Plus, I wanted to chill out while thinking about my health and how to stay forever young. I didn't plan any sightseeing, so most of my time was spent shuttling between Koh Samui's airport and Kamalaya. Caught some cool views from the taxi, though!
・Touching Down on Koh Samui
Koh Samui's Thailand's third-biggest island, and it's a bit over an hour from Bangkok by plane. Landed around 6 pm, and my ride from Kamalaya was already waiting. It took about an hour to get to the retreat, and by then, it was pretty dark. The temps were around 27°C or 28°C, but the night air had a bit of a chill—I ended up grabbing a jacket.
・Inside the Retreat
Kamalaya's big on this "digital detox" thing, so no phones or pics in the restaurant and treatment areas. But, I wanted to share my experience with you all, so I took photos where I could. Food pics were a no-go, though, so I grabbed some shots from Kamalaya later on.
