禅寺を訪ねる理由のひとつに庭園がある。日本の四季を楽しめる池泉回遊式(ちせんかいゆうしき)も美しくて大好きであるが、砂庭式枯山水を眺めていると時が止まっているかのような悠久の美を感じさせてくれる。
枯山水庭園はご承知の通り、散策が目的の庭ではなく、室内から静かに鑑賞するための庭である。石や砂の配置や組み合わせから、さまざまな風景を想像し自然と自らの存在を一体化し自分を見出すための庭という概念をもつ。だから心も体も自然に整っていく。

One of the reasons to visit Zen temple is the garden. I love the beautiful scenery of the Chisekaiyu-style, where you can enjoy the four seasons of Japan, but when you look at the Karesansui garden of the sand garden, you can feel the eternal beauty of time being stopped.
As you know, the Karisansui Garden is not a garden for walking, but a garden for quiet viewing from inside. From the arrangement and combination of stones and sand, it has the concept of a garden for imagining various landscapes and integrating nature with one's own existence to discover oneself. Therefore, the mind and body are naturally prepared.

白砂の模様は水の流れを表現している。この砂紋が、川に見えたり大海に見えたり雲海に見えたり・・・。人によって解釈はさまざまで、水を使わないのに水を感じさせる。
砂の中にある大きい岩は、不老不死の仙人が住むといわれる「蓬莱山（ほうらいさん）」に見立てたり、複数の岩や石を組み合わせて山が表現されている。

The pattern of white sand expresses the flow of water. This sand crest looks like a river, looks like the sea, looks like a sea of clouds... Interpretation varies depending on the person, and makes people feel water even though they do not use water.
The large rock in the sand is likened to Mt.Horai, which is said to be home to immortal hermits, and is represented by combining multiple rocks and stones.

その枯山水庭園を紙上で表現しようと試みている。砂の紋様は線で表し、山や石は仏様や般若心経、そして墨で創作しようと描き始めた。あくまでも想像の世界なので、いろんなチャレンジが可能になる。それを楽しみたいと思っている。

I am trying to express the Karesansui landscape garden on paper. I started to draw sand patterns with lines, and mountains and stones with Buddha, Hannya Sutra, and ink. Since it is an imaginary world, various challenges are possible. I want to enjoy it.

現代の枯山水庭園は仏教思想的な意味合いは薄く、自然の景観を表現するために岩や石を置く。その配置は、どの部屋からもバランスよく見えるよう設置し、特定の場所からしかすべての岩や石が見えなかったり、また縁側や窓から見るのが一番美しい配置になっていたり、庭によってさまざまのようである。さらに、どの位置から眺めても必ずどこかの一つの石が見えないように配置される場合もあるようだ。
先入観を持たずに、自由に解釈すれば自分の世界がもっと広がり楽しく鑑賞できるような気がする。

The modern Karishansui garden has little meaning in terms of Buddhism, and rocks and stones are placed to express the natural landscape. The arrangement is that all rooms can be seen in a well-balanced manner, all the rocks and stones can be seen only from a specific place, and the most beautiful arrangement can be seen from the edge or window, depending on the garden. Is like. Furthermore, it seems that there is a case where one stone is always invisible when viewed from any position.
I feel that if I freely interpret it without prejudice, my world will expand and I can enjoy it.
