Opening of an Office
It's almost one month, since I established Institute of Mathematical Analysis. If my home is at my office, there is some inconvenience. One may be apt to shut himself in his house, and it's no good to one's health. Lack of exercise may prevent change of mood, and one may work too hard. Fortunately, there is a community center in my neighborhood. So, I spend morning there and meet people visiting me at the saloon. However, the frequent usage makes me feel small.
Then, I decided to open my office. Thanks to the collapse of bubble economy, I may purchase a secondhand condominium. Originally, I wanted to have an office at the center of Osaka, but the author doesn't have necessity to meet many people except those who eagerly want to meet me. Then, my office may be opened at somewhat inconvenient place. Furthermore, by virtue of the progress in IT (Information Technology), I can manage my business, even if my office is located in an inconvenient place.
These reasoning made me feel that my office may be in Osaka-Sayama city where my home is located. I have been living there for about twenty years. There are many facilities such as an university hospital, banks, a city hall, community centers, post offices, super markets, book stores etc. It is a rather comfortable bedroom town. It may be lack of young labor force, but may have plenty of old powers like myself.
According to leaflets of real estate dealers, a used condominium may be purchased at rather cheep price. I called one of the dealers. Then, they visited me at once and took me to a house for sale. This house fitted my purpose, but the owner asked me to wait half year until they move to their own new condominium now under construction. Since I could not wait such a long time, I asked the dealer to introduce me other ones. These were all vacant, and one could move anytime.
I was very busy, because I was departing for the United States to attend a symposium held at Salt Lake. However, I made my wife and daughter arrange to purchase the condominium. I myself was absorbed in tasks which must be finished before leaving Japan. It may be rather risky to determine things in these busy situations, but the growth of my job may be prevented without my office, since the office is a necessity. There is no other choice.
The office may be available to meet people such as a bank clerk, a licensed tax accountant. Young foreign researchers may stay at the office. Then, I have enough time to exchange information with them. It may be useful for advertising my business. I may have a classroom on some special topics. There may be many applications.

Essay: Effective Use of Resources
The outflow of manufactures to overseas and large scale unemployment have become serious problems in Japan. New jobs must be created by new technology developments.
Technology development is not an easy task. So, people would like to expect big enterprises the ability. However, they are not necessarily good at the task, and in some cases, small companies are well suited for the job. There may be many reasons. The big companies tend to consume too long time for the development. In case of small companies, they can't survive, if they fail. So, they concentrate their resources into the development, and this leads to the shortening of the time required.
However, the scales of developments by small companies are small in many cases, and the effects are also small. The scales in case of western ventures are much bigger. The reason is that resources available by small companies in Japan are very small. They don't have enough fund and enough human talents.
In Japan, talents are enclosed into big enterprises. If those talents are productive, no complaints are necessary. However, pretty big number of the talents can't find the places and are obliged to sleep. For example, there are many people in big companies who can speak English, but they are quite few in small ones. It is a big waste for a nation. To the talents who can't find place in big companies, it is a very unhappy situation.
To activate technology developments and to create new employments, the resources monopolized by big businesses should be released. To make this possible, abundant fund should be supplied to small businesses. Success and failure of each case may not be important. Success rates as a whole should be a gauge.
