The only overseas of my life.(人生唯一の海外)

ECD was held for the first time on the 22nd of last month. First of all, I am happy that we were able to succesfully hold the second event this month. And this month's talk theme is "My travel memories". So, although it's now a bittersweet memory since I'm divorced, I'd like to talk about my honeymoon to Hwaii, the only time I've ever been abroad in my life.

It's been exactly 10 years since I went to Hwaii for my honeymoon. We left Fukuoka Airport at night on a flight that arrived in Hawaii at around noon local time. My memory of that day is that I had trouble sleeping on the plane and stayed up all night, so I arrived in Hawaii exhausted and sleepy the moment I arrived, and was unable to do much of anything except get to the hotel and go to sleep.

However, thanks to that, I felt full of energy after a night's sleep, so we started sightseeing in earnest on the second day after arriving. By the way, since this was the first time for both my partner and I to go abroad, we didn't push ourselves too hard when it came to sightseeing and booked a package tour in advance.

The first tour was the "Circle Island tour of Oahu". It was a one-day bus tour around Oahu island, where Honolulu is located. I think the order we went was "Moanalua Gardens → Chocolate Factory → Haleiwa Town → Jurassic Park filming location → Sunset Beach → Dole Plantation → Pearl Harbor". Looking back, we went to quite a few places in one day.

Among these, the ones that left the biggest impression on me were Moanalua Gardens and Pearl Harbor. There is a famous tree in Moanalua Gardens that is called "Konoki-Nannoki", and I have finally discoverd what kind of tree it is. Since that day, I have never had any worries about "Konoki-Nannoki" again. And then, Pearl Harbor was the site of a surprise attack by Japan several decades ago. The fact we can now visit such the place as a Jpanese tourist made me think about a lot of things. I realized how grateful I'm to be able to live in such a peaceful time and place.

The next day, we went  on a sightseeing tour of Hawaii island. This was also a one-day tour around Hawaii island. I was also happy to be able to ride a plane, since you have to fly get to Hawaii island. I think the order we went was "the park with the King Kamehaeha statue → black sand beach → Rainbow Falls → lunch buffet → Mauna Loa volcano → a certain jungle → macadamia nut factory". We also went to a lot of places.

Among these, the one that left the biggest impression on me was Mauna Loa volcano. When I saw steam riging from the crater, I felt that the Earth is a living Planet. I also have fond memories of the lava plateau nearby. The contrast between the bare black lava plateau at an altitude of about 800m and the blue ocean that stretched out before us was very beautiful. By the way, the heat from the volcano reached the surface of the lava plateau, making it like a natural bedrock bath. So it felt really nice to lie down on the lava plateau. 

On the third day, we went to "Angel Sea" in the morning and "Sunset Dinner Cruise" in the afternoon. This was the last day we could spend a full day sightseeing.

At Angel Sea, we went out a little way offshore by a ship and did snorkeling from there. I can't swim, so of course I wear a life jacket. We were able to enjoy the beautiful ocean of Hawaii. Also, when we returned  to the ship later, we were given a sandwich as a snack, and I still remember how delicious it was, even though it was just an ordinary sandwich. Perhaps it was the pleasent fatigue from snorkeling and the feeling of freedom on the ship that made me feel that way.

On the sunset dinner cruise, we aboarded a cruise ship and enyoed dinner while watching the Hawaiian sunset. The view of Honolulu cityscape and Diamond Head from the ship also had a different atmosphere which was nice. Of course, the sunset sinking into the clear Hawaiian sea and sky was also incredibly beautiful. After that, before returning to the hotel, we went to a spot to see the night view from the mountains. We were able to enjoy the view of Honolulu from both the ocean and the mountains.

Thus, after fully enjoing our time in Hawaii, we returned to Fukuoka Airport. On the way back, we left Honolulu airport around noon and arrived at Fukuoka around 5pm Japan time. The flight was about 10 hours, so on the way back it felt like only the daytime were a little longer, and I remember not getting too jet-lag.

And as I mentioned in the title, my experience of abroad is only my honeymoom. However, now that I've started studying English, that makes me want to go to abroad. From now on, I would like to work hard and aim to go abroad for the second time in my life.

先月22日に初開催された、ECD。今月、無事に２回目を迎えられたことをまずは嬉しく思います。そして、今月のトークテーマは「旅の思い出」。なので、私は離婚してしまっているので甘酸っぱい思い出にはなってしまっているのですが、これまでの人生で唯一の海外である、ハワイへの新婚旅行のお話をしていきたいと思います。

私がハワイへ新婚旅行に行ったのは、もう今からちょうど10年前になります。福岡空港を夜に出発して、ハワイ現地時間のお昼に着く飛行機で出発しました。その日の思い出としては、飛行機の中で上手く眠れずに徹夜状態でハワイに到着したので、ついた瞬間にもう疲れて眠く、ほぼ何もできずにホテルに着いて寝るだけだったことです。

しかし、そのおかげで一晩寝たあとは元気一杯になったので、到着後２日目から本格的に観光を開始しました。ちなみに、私もパートナーも初めて海外だったので、観光は無理せずに事前に予約したパックツアーで行いました。

そして、最初のツアーは、「オアフ島一周ツアー」。バスで１日かけて、ホノルルのあるオアフ島を巡るツアーです。行った順番は、「モアナルア・ガーデン→チョコレート工場→ハレイワタウン→ジュラシックパークのロケ地→サンセットビーチ→ドールプランテーション→パールハーバー」だったと思います。振り返ってみると、１日で結構な場所に行ってますね。

この中でも印象に残っているのが、モアナルアガーデンとパール・ハーバーですかね。モアナルアガーデンにはかの有名な「この木なんの木」があって、遂にその正体が分かってしまいました。この日以来、「この木なんの木」で悩むことはなくなりました。あとは、真珠湾は何十年か前に日本が奇襲攻撃を行った場所です。そんな場所に、今日本人として観光に行けているのは、色々と考えさせられるものがありました。平和な時代、平和な場所に生きることができているのは、本当にありがたいことだなと思いました。

次の日は、ハワイ島観光ツアーに行きました。こちらも、１日かけてハワイ島を巡るツアーです。ハワイ島は飛行機を使って行く必要があるので、飛行機にも乗れて嬉しかったです。行った順番は、「カメハメハ大王像のある公園→黒砂海岸→レイボーフォールズ→昼食バイキング→マウナロア火山→とあるジャングル→マカデミアンナッツ工場」だったと思います。こちらも、たくさんの場所に行きました。

この中で印象に残っているのは、やっぱりマウナロア火山ですね。火口から湯気が上がっているのを見た時は、地球が生きている星であることを実感しました。また、その近くにある溶岩台地も思い出に残っています。標高800mくらいの黒くて何もない溶岩台地と、その目の前に広がる青い海のコントラストがとても美しかったです。ちなみに火山の熱が溶岩台地の表面まで伝わってきて、天然の岩盤浴みたいになってました。なので溶岩台地で寝転ぶと、とても気持ちが良かったです。

そして３日目は、午前中は「天使の海」に、午後は「サンセットディナークルーズ」に行きました。この日が、丸１日使って観光できる最後の日です。

天使の海では、船で少し沖まで出て、そこからシュノーケリングを行いました。私は泳げないので、もちろんライフジャケットを着けてです。ハワイの綺麗な海を堪能できました。また、そのあと船に戻った時に軽食でサンドイッチをもらえたのですが、それがただのサンドイッチなのに、めちゃくちゃ美味しく感じたのを今でも覚えています。おそらく、シュノーケリングでの心地よい疲れと、船の上という開放感が、そのように感じさせたのでしょうね。

サンセットディナークルーズでは、クルーズ船に乗ってハワイの夕日を見ながらディナーを楽しみました。船の上から見るホノルルの街並みやダイヤモンドヘッドも、また違った雰囲気があって良かったです。もちろん、澄んだハワイの海と空の中で沈んでいく夕日も、最高に綺麗でした。そのあとは、ホテルに戻る前に今度は山からの夜景スポットに行きました。海からも山からも、ホノルルの景色を堪能できました。

こうしてハワイを大満喫して、福岡空港に戻りました。帰りはホノルルを出発したのが正午ごろで、福岡に着いたのが日本時間の夕方５時くらいだったと思います。フライトの時間は10時間くらいだったので、帰りは少し昼が長くなったくらいの感覚で、あまり時差ボケにならずに済んだ記憶があります。

そして、タイトルにもした通り、私の海外経験はこの新婚旅行だけです。でも、こうして英語の勉強もし始めると、やっぱり海外にも行ってみたくなりますね。今後は、人生２回目の海外を目指して、頑張っていけたらと思います。
