HLAB TOKYO 2022  サマースクールが終わり、約2ヶ月半が経ちました。8月15日〜8月22日に開催されたHLAB TOKYO 2022  サマースクールで高校生が何を感じ、学んだのかが分かる内容となっています。是非、ご一読ください。

【HLAB TOKYO 2022 Daily Report Vol.1】

不安や期待など様々な思いを抱えた高校生。そんな高校生たちを、HLABでは様々な企画やアクティビティでお迎えします。
HLABサマースクールの特徴のひとつは「ハウス」制度です。全参加者は10の※ハウスに振り分けられ、異なる経験を有し、様々な分野に興味を持つ仲間と一緒に過ごします。ハウスはアットホームな雰囲気なため、高校生たちが率直に思ったことを気兼ねなく共有することができます。
初日は、ハウス内の高校生やメンターのことをよく知ることを軸に、様々な企画を行いました。記念すべき最初のアイスブレイクセッションでは、ゲームやアクティビティを通して、メンバー同士が大切にしていることや価値観を探り合いました。高校生からは「ハウスの一番好きなところは、普段知り合えないような高校生やメンターと友達になれること。」という声も聞こえました。

※ハウス…高校生、日本人の大学生、海外の大学生で構成されている行動班のこと。1グループ約7〜8人。

　Excited or nervous, HLAB Summer School TOKYO 2022 was took off for the ## of mentors and ## students. HLAB welcomes the students with events and initiatives including being assigned to each “HOUSE” lead by the HLAB mentors. The intimacy of the HOUSE serves as a safe place, allowing the students to discuss challenges being at HLAB and other sensitive issues.
DAY 1 mainly focused on loosening up everyone in the HOUSE. Our very first session was ice break, where the students and mentors got to know each other’s value through the games and activities. “My favorite thing about HOUSE is that I become friendly with people I would never know otherwise” , said one student.

DAY2は、海外にルーツを持つメンターによる「セミナー」で始まりました。HLABのセミナーは、少人数制のクラスによるアカデミックセッションで、多種多様な学問分野を掘り下げる機会になります。熱意のあるメンターとともにすべての高校生がより包括的に学ぶことができます。セミナー終了後、高校生たちは、メンターメンターや、社会人との「フリーインタラクション」に参加しました。参加した高校生からは「自分達より一歩先を行く先輩にお話を伺うことができたため、この先の人生を考える上で参考になりました。」という声が聞かれました。一日の終わりに、高校生は各ハウスのブレイクアウトルームに集まり、※リフレクションを行いました。
※リフレクション…主にハウスごとにその日の振り返りをし、学びや思いを言語化する時間。

DAY 2 kick started with seminors, where international mentors gave a lecture to high school students for the students to pique their passions. The small class size and engaging mentors enable a more inclusive learning experience for all of the students.
After the seminars, the students went through three “Free Interaction Sessions”, where they meet internal mentors, international mentors and professionals of various fields.” It was a nice opportunity for me to get to know people ahead of us, preparing me for the world in store.”
As soon as the day came to an end, the students got together at each HOUSE room for reflection time. “I didn’t realize HOUSE also serves as a much-needed breather from academic things at Summer School,” noted one student.

待ちに待った対面でのサマースクール開催。4日目を迎え、高校生とメンターが高尾の地に集まりました。オンライン開催した前半2日間を経て、やっと高校生とメンターが顔を合わせました。様々な背景を持つメンターと高校生が集まるHLABでは、多様性やインクルージョンを大切にしています。ガイダンスとアイスブレイク企画を通して、高校生にHLABの信念や価値観を共有しました。この日の目玉は、孝藤右近さまをお招きした盆踊り企画です。高校生もメンターも輪になって盆踊りを体験しました。海外にルーツを持つメンターからは、「踊り方を教わったおかげで、かけがえのない思い出となった」という声が聞かれました。

After months of waiting, the in person HLAB Summer School TOKYO 2022 was officially kicked off for the students and the mentors on Aug 18. Unique circumstances rendered it the first ever hybrid summer school in the history of HLAB. Day 4 included numerous programming centered around diversity and inclusion as well as the students and the mentors getting a break. One of Day 4 favorites was Bon Odori, where the students and the mentors got together to dance in unison. ”Everyone was teaching me their traditional moves and it was a wonderful experience that I wouldn’t have experienced if HLAB didn’t take me there,” one of the international mentors remarked gratefully.

5日目は、「未完成な東京」の素顔を探索。「社会科見学」で、東京の多種多様な文化に触れられただけでなく、「社会人フォーラム」を通して、人生を少し先ゆく社会人のお話を伺いました。
1日を締めくくるリフレクションでは、高校生から「今日は様々な人に出会うことができた上、新たな自分にも出会うことができた」という声が上がりました。また、フォーラムを通じて、多くの高校生が良い刺激を受けていました。「ギラギラとした熱意を持った社会人と関わることができたお陰で、将来自分が何をしたいのか改めて考えるきっかけとなった」という声も聞こえました。

Day 5 started off by a trip into the milieu of “an imperfect city of Tokyo''. The students got to enjoy cultural wonders Tokyo has to offer and immerse themselves in the world of work.
Upon reflection time, the students are left with countless meaningful encounters with themselves as well as local communities. This excursion also endded up piquing their interests significantly. One student noted: “ Day 5 let me gain direct exposure to enthusiastic people, allowing me to reflect on what I want to pursue in the future.”

セミナー後、高校生とメンターはタカオネ周辺を散策しました。高校生からは「緑が少ない都心で生まれ育ったので、自然がこんなにも自分自身を振り返るのに最適な場所だということに気づかなかった」などの感想がありました。
タカオネに戻ってからは、散策した周辺の様子をハウスごとに地図に書き起こしました。それぞれのハウスの特色が現れている地図が完成しました。他にもタカオネ中に貼られている模造紙にハウスの自慢や私だけの秘密などを付箋に書いて貼りました。高校生からは「みんなにハウスのいいところを知ってもらえて嬉しい」などの声が聞かれました。

Day6 began with the seminars and the sessions, both initiated by international mentors. After that, all of the students and the mentors roamed Takaone, where we have lived under the same roof for the past three days. One student reflected, “Coming from Central Tokyo, which mostly lacks rural areas, I realized how nature holds incredible insights about ourselves.”
As soon as they returned to Takaone from a walk, each house drew what they perceived and witnessed to make a map around Takaone. Their diverse perspectives made the map even richer and distinct from each other. Aside from that, they posted sticky notes across Takaone to share what they love about their house and fun facts about themselves. One student noted gratefully “ It was such a great opportunity to flex my house to everyone at HLAB.”

朝食後50分のセミナーを2つ受けた後は、ラウンジとホールに別れての傾聴系ワークショップ。パステルを使って、それぞれがサマースクールで感じた想いを一枚の紙に描きました。不安を表す暗い色や友情を表す明るい色などそれぞれが自由に感情を表現していました。昼食後は3日間のセミナーでの学びをアウトプットする時間。グループごとに模造紙に学習内容を書き、原稿を作って英語で発表しました。

夕方からはお楽しみ、野外でのカレー作りをしました。ハウスごとに高校生、メンター全員で協力して取り組みました。笑いが絶えず7日間で築いた絆の深さを伺える時間となりました。美味しいカレーを食べた後は、最後のリフレクション。サマースクールで感じたこと、そして将来について信頼できる仲間と語り合いました。最終夜は時間の許す限り多くの人と交流し、高校生たちが積極的にいろんなことを吸収しようという姿がとても印象的でした。

After having lectures, high schoolers attended a Listening Based Dialogue Session. They expressed their feelings on the paper with pastels. Everyone expressed their feelings freely, for example using dark colors for anxiety and bright colors for friendship. After eating lunch, it was time to express their learnings from the seminars. Each group created a poster summarizing their takeaways from the seminars , prepared a draft, and presented it in English. In the evening, we had a fun time cooking curry outdoors.Every House laughed and laughed constantly, it showed the strength of the bonds that had been built over the past seven days. After eating the curry, it was time for the final reflection. We discussed what we felt at the summer school and our future with our trusted friends. It was also impressive to see how proactive the high school students were on the final night, wanting to interact with their peers and absorb as much as they could in the time available.

ついに迎えた最終日。午前中はタカオネでHouseごとに未来系ワークショップを行いました。自身の夢を明確にし、その達成のために必要なプロセスを洗い出しました。サマースクール前の目標とも比較したことでこの8日間での成長を強く感じました。午後は八王子に移動し、閉会式が行われました。テーマソングが会場を包み込む中、修了証を受け取る高校生の表情は未来への希望に満ちていました。式終了後は至るところで熱い抱擁と対話が交わされ、過ぎていく時の儚さを感じました。八王子駅から帰路に着く高校生の背中はとても頼もしく誇らしげでした。

Today is the final day. In the morning, high schoolers had a workshop for the future at Takaone. They wrote down their dreams and identified the processes to achieve them. By comparing their goals with those before the summer school, they strongly felt their growth over the past 8 days. In the afternoon, we moved to Hachioji for the closing ceremony. As the theme song filled the venue, the high schoolers' faces were filled with hope for the future when they received their certificates of completion. After the ceremony, enthusiastic hugs and conversations were exchanged everywhere, reminding us of the fleeting nature of time passing. The high schoolers were very encouraging and proud as they headed home from Hachioji Station.
