Translation Studies Diary of 15 July, 2024
Katharina Reiss was a German linguist and translation scholar.
She is seen as a co-founder of the Skopos theory.
While based on one of the most important concepts in translation studies, equivalence, she took the text as a whole communicative entity, rather than words or sentences. Her functional approach initially aimed to systematise the evaluation of translation and laid the foundations for Skopos theory.
