HUMAN FLOW

Hello My name is Nene. My major is politics and studying international law. So today I’m here for sharing easy report about refugees and social problems they are facing. Hope you reach out something. So I’m gonna start with what exactly that term”refugee” means.

Around the world, there are about 60 million people who have been forced to leave their homes to escape war, violence and persecution. The majority of them have become internationally displaced person, which means they have fled their homes but still within their own countries. Other have crossed border and sought shelter outside of their own countries. They are commonly referred as refugees.

Now let’s move on to the definition. The world has known refugees for millennia, but the modern definition relating to the status the United Nation’s 1951 convention. It defines as someone who is outside their country of nationality, and is unable to return to their home county because of many fears of being persecuted. That persecution maybe due to their race, religion, nationality, membership of particular social group, or political opinion. And is often related to war and violence.
In fact today, roughly half the world’s refugee are children, some of them unaccompanied by adult. A situation that makes them especially vulnerable to child labor or sexual exploitation.

So next, let’s clear one thing up.
There’s a lot of confusion regarding the difference between terms “migrant” and “refugee”. “Migrant” usually refers to people who leave their country for reason not related to persecution, such as searching better economic opportunities or leaving drought, sticken area in search of better circumstances. There are many people around the world who have been displaced because of natural disasters, food insecure and other hardships. But international law, rightly or wrongly only recognize those fleeing conflict and violence as refugee.

Now I’d like to move on to the common problems they are facing. First, people who are evading conflict often do not have the required documents, like visa to board airplanes and regally enter other countries. Financial and political factors can also prevent them from traveling by standard routes. This means they can usually only travel by land or sea. And many need to entrust their lives to smugglers to help them cross the border.

Second, I’m talking about resettlement in other country. Resettlement is the transfer of refugees from an asylum country to another State that has agreed to admit them and ultimately grant them permanent settlement.
Host countries have several duties towards people they have recognize as refugees like the guarantees of minimum standard to treat and non-discrimination. But in reality however, refugees are frequently the victims of inconsistent and discrimination. In addition, far too many refugees children are out of school due to lack of funding for education.

In conclusion, I will introduce some public figures might you did not know that were a refugee. Famous singer Rita Ora was from Kosovo refugee when she was a baby. Bob Marley, he escaped from political conflict in Jamaica to Miami. Freddie Mercury, lead vocal from Queen was from Zanzibar. And last at not least, Albert Einstein, he was a Jewish refugee.

Let me end by saying that there are approximately 60 million refugees in globe and many of there families have risk their lives to cross the border.
Even after the resettlement, they still suffering from discrimination and less education opportunity.
And there are many public figures used to be a refugees came to have a tremendous impact on the countries and cultures where they are relocated.

Thank you :)
