Going to the dentist is like going to Disneyland. I always get excited!
I love going to the dentist!
-Really? Are you crazy?
Yah! I think I am.
Hear me out.
Back home, going to the dentist is a normal routine. Starting from early childhood, it is as regular an activity as going to a medical health check here in Japan. In fact it's opposite.
A dental visit is an expected check, however in the states people only go to the clinic or hospital as an emergency. Though health checks are probably more common for those who paid for good health care or work for a very good company, like the government.
-But that doesn't explain why you LOVE the dentist here.
I'm getting to that!
Well it's simple supply and demand.
Dentist in the states are always busy. Loads of people make regular appointments plus the emergency cases that come in.
Dentist become so proficient due to the shear numbers of patients. I would say the negative aspect is that dentist seemed to have lost empathy for patients.
I mean, how would you feel looking at hundreds of open mouths a week? Not everyone has the best of hygiene or a beautiful mouth. Wide open mouths are not pretty. Not to mention physical care. Not many people look like Ayase Haruka or Kaneshiro Takeshi.
You know what I mean?
Anyways, this would make a person tired or even sick of being a dentist.
The deep sympathy they once had as a junior dentist, wanting to change the world one smile at a time gets eroded over time.
What used to be sympathy and compassion for the patient becomes heartlessness. A patient would leave the dentist with a aching mouth and headache. Prescribed 800mg of Motrin for the pain they will experience an hour later. Feeling like you were hit with a hammer. Looking like they were in a street fight!
-Are you serious? But I think you have good teeth, and you like to fight!
Thanks! But nevertheless, I've gotten used to it. I am prepared to feel the pain. never bothered me!
-But your like the dentist here? I still don't get it!
Well, 1st point. Every time I go to the dentist here, I'm greeted by women.
Smiling pretty women in light pink outfits. It's heaven, without the clouds!
I mean, are all dentist in Japan employed by cute staff and pretty technicians?
-Uh! No! Where exactly do you go to the dentist again? Ginza? Akihabara dentist café?
Also their comfort and support is wonderful. Soft hands. Gentle handling of equipment. Their encouragement and compassion is top notch. I feel like a kitten in their care.
-Do you have the "hots" for your dentist?
You got me! Actually I have a crush on all the dental staff. I don't know which one I like the most.
It's like Gokon. But I'm the only man. Why else do you think I always dress up in a suit, shave, and have a fresh haircut for my appointments?
-When is your next appointment? I'll go with you. For friendship support.
I'll make an appointment.
You maybe onto something! Attractive women with nice smiles?
You don't have to go!
-Why not? I do need my teeth cleaned.
And I'm your girlfriend!
