亜熱帯ジャングルの樹木などのの下に、群を
なして大地を覆い尽くすイラクサ科、ミズ属
の非耐寒性の常緑植物。


葉の表面には縮緬状の凹凸が形成されていて
大樹に遮られた木漏れ日を効率よく蓄えては
光合成する構造をもっている。ＤＶＤがＣＤ
よりも多くのデータを保存する為に立体構造
で形成されるのと同じ原理で葉の表面にある
縮緬状の表層で表面積を稼いでいるのである。


葉の色は鮮やかなライトグリーンをしている
上に、立体構造部にはチョコレートカラーで
三本線を軸にしたグラデーション展開が見事
な芸術品ばりの外観となっている。


この植物は根茎による匍匐性（ホフクセイ）
に優れており、そのスクラムにより密集して
自分達のエリア内に他の植物類が生えるのを
阻止する性質に長けている。


この植物はその葉の美しさから作り出された
園芸品種で、日本には１９６９年に渡来。
非耐寒性なので温室機能を有する植物園等で
美しい葉姿を見る事ができる。一般家庭でも
鉢植えで寒くならない室内での観葉植物にも
利用できる。

PILEA CRASSIFOLIA - MOON VALLEY

It is a non-cold-resistant evergreen plant of the Araceae family, Mizu genus, which forms a carpet-like cover on the ground under subtropical jungle trees.


The leaf surface has a crepe-like texture, efficiently capturing dappled sunlight blocked by large trees and utilizing a structure for photosynthesis. Similar to the three-dimensional structure forming DVDs to store more data than CDs, the crinkled surface on the leaves maximizes the surface area.


The leaves display a vibrant light green color, and the three-dimensional parts feature a chocolate-colored gradient along three lines, creating a stunning artistic appearance.


This plant excels in its creeping nature through rhizomes, forming a dense cover that prevents other plants from growing within its area.


Introduced to Japan in 1969 for its beautiful leaves, this horticultural variety thrives in non-cold-resistant conditions, making it suitable for greenhouse environments and indoor ornamental plants in homes where it won't be exposed to cold temperatures.
