カレープラント 横を通るとお腹が空く匂いを漂わせる植物
カレー プラント（CURRY PLANT）
キク目、キク科、ヘリクサム属
名前そのままに、これが生えている周辺域に
カレーの香りが漂っている植物である。
ローズマリーなども、香草として知られるが
あちらのものはその葉に触れてやらない限り
辺りに匂いを漂わせない。
ローズマリーもであるが、ミント系として沢山
あるあれらの葉に触れると漂う良い香りは理由
があって、あれらの香りである。我々の良いと
思う香りが虫にとってはイヤな香りなのである。
ローズマリーもミントも、その葉に触れてみたり
千切ってやると、強い香りを放つ。葉を食べる虫
がこれらの葉を齧った途端にこの強い香りで撃退
させる、そう云う香りなのである。
子供もだが私も大好きなカレーの匂いであるが
カレープラントのこの香りもまた虫からすると
オエッとなる香りなのである。
このカレープラントは、白妙菊（シロタエギク）
と同様に細かい毛が茎も葉も覆い尽くしており
香りと同時に虫に食われない二重防衛ラインを
引いている。
さて、この植物の香りがカレーに似てるのだが
カレースパイスとして加えられることはない。
このハーブは苦味が強過ぎる為、料理に合わぬ
ためである。
だが、抽出されるオイルにはアンチエイジング
成分が含まれる事から民間療法にも使われる。
血流促進に加えて、抗菌作用もあるものなのだ。
この植物の別名にもなるエバーラスティングや
イモーテルは永遠を表す名であり、花言葉にも
『不滅の愛』『永遠に』などの言葉が並ぶ。
理由はこのオイリー成分が身体の新陳代謝への
促進にも役立ち寄与するものとされているため
アンチエイジングに役立つものとなる。

As its name suggests, this plant emits a curry-like fragrance in its surrounding area.
Herbs such as rosemary are also known for their fragrance, but unlike the curry plant, they do not release their scent into the air unless their leaves are touched. Many mint-related plants also produce pleasant aromas when their leaves are rubbed, and there is a reason for this. The scents that we find pleasant are actually repellent to insects.
Both rosemary and mint release a strong aroma when their leaves are touched or torn. This scent serves as a defense mechanism—when leaf-eating insects bite into them, they are repelled by the strong odor.
Although both children and I love the smell of curry, for insects, the scent of the curry plant is overwhelming and unpleasant.
The curry plant, like Senecio cineraria (Dusty Miller), is covered in fine hairs on both its stems and leaves. This provides a dual defense system against insects: the strong fragrance and the physical barrier created by the hairs.
While the plant’s scent resembles that of curry, it is not used as a curry spice. This is because its bitterness is too strong, making it unsuitable for cooking.
However, the oil extracted from this plant contains anti-aging properties and is used in folk medicine. It is known to promote blood circulation and has antibacterial effects.
The alternative names for this plant, Everlasting and Immortelle, symbolize eternity. This is reflected in its flower meanings, which include “undying love” and “forever”.
The reason behind these associations is that the plant’s oily components are believed to aid in metabolism and rejuvenation, making them beneficial for anti-aging.
