死刑執行数は5年ぶりの高水準

世界最大の統計調査データプラットフォームでドイツのインフォグラフィクスを紹介しているハンブルク(Stadt Hamburg)にあるStatista GmbHのデータ・ジャーナリスト(data Journalist)、インフォグラフィクスのヘッドであるマティアス・ブラント(Mathias Brandt)の報告として、シェダ・ニエ(Hedda Nier)、フラウケ・スール(Frauke Suhr)の報告と共に2023年05月16日に、アムネスティ・インターナショナル(Amnesty International)によると、死刑判決や処刑の数は昨年増加し、2017年以来の高水準となった。

同組織は、20カ国で少なくとも883件の死刑執行(2021年：18カ国で579件)を数え、「さらに中国では数千件の死刑執行が隠蔽されている。」と報告した。
この増加は、主に中東での処刑に起因している。例えばイランでは、少なくとも576人が国家によって処刑された(2021年：314人)。

そしてまた、2023年には、少なくとも209人がすでに処刑されたと言われている。

しかし、死刑を積極的に活用しているのはムラ政権だけでなく、サウジアラビアでも死刑執行人数は前年度の65人から196人へと3倍に増えている。
また、2022年にはアフガニスタン、クウェート、ミャンマー、シンガポール、ガザ地区で中断していた死刑が再び執行されたと報告されている。

アメリカでは、死刑執行数が前年の11件から2022年には18件に増加した。

しかし、良いニュースもある： 昨年、6カ国が死刑を完全または部分的に廃止した。
