I use a Fujifilm X-H1 and a Fujifilm X-100S. Now that wasn't so difficult, was it? The reason I bring this up is because I remember reading about one photographer who said something like "Asking me what camera I use is like saying, ' I like the bread you make, what kind of oven do you use?' "

Well, If I were a baker and went to another bakery and found a baguette for sale that had an excellent crust, a wonderful color and superb aroma, I would probably buy the baguette, and I would also ask the baker, "Say, what kind of oven do you use?" And why not? Curiosity about tools does not negate "art." And to me, the photographer who made the remark about the bread was being way too "precious."
 
そうですね、もし私がパン屋で、別のパン屋に行って、皮が素晴らしく、色も素晴らしく、香りも最高のバゲットが売られているのを見つけたら、私はおそらくそのバゲットを買うでしょうし、パン屋に「ところで、どんなオーブンを使っているんですか？」と尋ねるでしょう。なぜそうしないのでしょう？道具に対する好奇心は「芸術」を否定するものではありません。そして私にとって、パンについて発言した写真家は、あまりにも「貴重」すぎるのです。

Photography is generally considered both an art and a craft. For me, the craft comes first. Maybe that is the influence of the Japanese ethic and aesthetic on my thinking. In Japan you study with a teacher, and if you are lucky a genuine master. You work on your craft, maybe even just some small part of it for some time.
写真は一般的に芸術であると同時に工芸でもあると考えられています。私にとっては、工芸が第一です。おそらく、日本の倫理観と美学が私の考え方に影響を与えているのでしょう。日本では、先生に師事し、運が良ければ本物の師匠に師事します。しばらくの間、自分の工芸に取り組みます。ほんの一部でも構いません。

 If it is restaurant work you get to cut lots and lots of vegetables before you get to cook something. This applies to many professions; you do the basics again and again, and the art emerges. In the West there is talk of 10,000 hours to achieve competence. In Japan the same idea is expressed by the phrase "To sit on a rock for 3 years." You can't rush the art, especially if you haven't done the work.
レストランの仕事であれば、料理をする前にたくさんの野菜を切ることになります。これは多くの職業に当てはまります。基本を何度も繰り返して、技術が身につきます。西洋では、熟練度を身につけるには 10,000 時間かかると言われています。日本では、同じ考えが「石の上に 3 年間座る」という言葉で表現されています。特に、実際に仕事をしていない場合は、技術を急ぐことはできません。

Let's go back to our photographer and his comment about the bread and the oven. What he does NOT want is to be considered a photo geek, one of those people who can give you all the specs on the newest camera and the latest technology but can't take a picture to save their life. Nor does our "artistic" photographer want to be lumped in with the other kind of geeks with a photo vest and some kind of weird camera sling/ holster.

Here is a picture of an actor whose work I admire. His name is Rys Ifans. He is from Wales. He played Hugh Grant's goofy flat mate, Spike, in Notting Hill. (1999) He has done a lot of fine work–my favorite was a TV series, Berlin Station. (2016).

 Here is what Rys Ifans says about his work (craft):

"I am a factory-floor actor: I learn the lines, I get there on time."

The term that I like and use for this attitude or work ethic is "journeyman." I consider myself a journeyman writer and am working on becoming a journeyman photographer. To me, a journeyman is a craftsman who gets the job done in a competent manner, on schedule, and without undue fuss.

Do your remember the film Moneyball (2011) with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill ? The plot revolves around the manager, Billy Beane, played by Brad Pitt, who rebuilds a mediocre team into a winning franchise by hiring a crew of journeyman players.
At one point the question is asked:
"Why do we like him?" The answer is: "Because he gets on base.” And that is it–not big plays, not drama, but just getting on base consistently. Doing the basics, and doing them well, again and again and again.

 So I use a Fujifilm camera, and I am a journeyman photographer, learning my craft. Nothing to be ashamed of. Will art emerge from my work? Maybe some day–but this is not for me to judge. My job is to learn the lines and get there on time.
