初めての友だち/My first friend in NC, USA

日本語のあとに、英文が続きます。同じ内容ですが、直訳ではありません。
読みにくいかもしれませんが、初めの頃に英語で書いたことも残しておきたいと思い、このような形で、編集しています。


こちらの記事では、私のアメリカ生活の経験を書いています。見知らぬ土地、しかもアメリカで初めて友だちができた頃のお話です。ノースカロライナ州で家族と生活し始めたのは、私が7歳の時でした。弟は3歳。父の仕事の転勤で、母とも皆で日本から引っ越しすることになったのです。

This is my story from experiences living in the United States. It was my first time to make an American friend. I was 7 years old when I came to North Carolina with my family. My brother was only 3 years old. My father was transferred to a company in North Carolina from Japan.

何がそんなに特別だったのか？
私の英語力もゼロ。アメリカのことだって、何も知らない状況でした。
もちろん、異文化理解って何？状態です。
日本以外の国で生活するってどういうことなのか、私の経験してきたことを踏まえて、少しづつですが、記事に書いていきたいと思います。

What was so special to me?
My English level was zero. I knew nothing about the United States. Of course, I didn't know anything about cultural differences. This was just a start to live in a different country other than Japan and I would like to write down my memories of my experiences as much as possible.

私と弟は、大きなお家を見て、びっくりしました。一階建ての家だけど、リビングルームがあって、台所、寝室もある。それだけじゃなかった！暖炉のある部屋がありました。自分たちだけの部屋も、一人ずつあったのです！楽しみすぎて、家中、二人で走り回って、飛び上がって喜びました。あとで、外の庭の方に行ってみると、さらに驚きが！

ブランコ！すご～！

庭、というには、広すぎる！少なくとも日本で見るような庭と違うのです。芝生に覆われて、サッカーとか、野球だってできるくらい広い！

少し隣の家の庭あたりを見ると、そこにもブランコがありました。両親と一緒にお隣さんのお家に、ご挨拶に行きました。私も弟も、英語は話せず、かろうじて、微笑むくらいしかできていなかったです。

すると、女の子と男の子が、彼らの両親の後ろから、顔を覗かせていました。

My brother and I were both surprised to see how our house was large. It was a one-story house with a living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and a room with a fireplace. We each had our own rooms. We jumped and ran inside the house. Afterwards, we went outside to see the yard which made us more excited. Wow, there's a swing set! The backyard was so wide and covered with grass! We could play soccer or baseball in our backyard. This environment was so different from Japan. 

We also saw another swing set next to our yard, which was our neighbor's yard. My parents took us to the neighbour's house and we were introduced to them. We couldn't say anything in English, so all we could do were to just smile at them.

A girl and a boy came out behind their parents.
