About the issue of gender inequality and other social issues in Japan

I found the project from Setagaya-ward in Japan that says let’s watch the babies who are crying and their parents warmly by the administration in Setagaya-ward, Tokyo in Japan. This project symbolizes there are many parents in Japan, especially mothers, who worry about their crying babies who cry endlessly because they feel the people around them regard endless crying babies as troublesome.

So I can understand the goal of this project that aims at watching the children and their parents warmly including the babies who cry a lot with a whole society. And I think there are some parents who will be saved by this project or there are other people who will try to support the parents and crying babies by doing what they can do for the parents and the babies in the tolerant heart.

But certainly, I feel uncomfortable and wrong at this situation because this situation implies that many Japanese people turn their eyes upon and the parents and their babies in cold ways. And this situation also implies that many Japanese people have the tendency to behave to the parents and crying babies with thinking that the they are troublesome in the public place because the voice of crying babies are noisy. Also, many Japanese people are often exhausted and many of them have no peace of mind because they are desperate to live their lives and many of them are so busy.

So in Japan, there are lacks of social systems that helping and supporting people who have troubles in daily lives like raising children. By rights, even if there are no project like this, it’s natural that we support parents and their children warmly and in a tolerate heart. These cold eyes towards crying babies and children give their parents, especially mother much more mental burden and feelings of difficulties to live. This is because mothers have been pushed more burdens of raising children and doing housework plus jobs than fathers in Japan in the gender inequality system.

This situation forces the parents, especially mothers, to be social isolation and isolation makes problems like child abuse or neglect worse. This situation is one cause of increasing Japanese smaller number of children which has a high gender gap. Like this issue, Japan has the tendency that many people think the all the responsibilities of the issues is due to the self responsibilities of the people who are concerned with the issues, not due to the people who is not directly concerned with them.

This situation is clearly problematic and I think this trend is wrong. Social isolation is the one cause of current social issues like high rates of suicide by the young people or the harassments in workplace or schools. In raising children or so, we should create a society that all people’s rights and dignities are respected equally and all people can proceed to their lives with feeling safe at choosing diverse choices of lives as they really want and want to be regardless of their characteristics like gender.
