それなりにたくさんの音楽を聴いてきたので、感謝の言葉を伝えたくなった自分（＃５）

QUEENに感謝。私がアルバイトで得たお金で
初めて購入したアルバムが「華麗なるレース」だ。
日本盤の発売は1977年1月。実は、代表曲
「Bohemian Rhapsody」が収録された前作
「オペラ座の夜」もまだ手に入れていなかったが、
 単純に新作をいち早く聴きたい衝動が上回って
の購入だった。

震える手でゆっくりとアナログ盤に針を落とす。
「Tie Your Mother Down」のイントロから興奮。
B面にひっくり返し、「Somebody To Love」冒頭の
美しいコーラスが流れると、自然と涙が溢れ出した。
１０代だった自分の感性でも、英語詞を訳さなくて
も、愛の必要性を歌っていることは感じ取った。
個人的にメインヴォーカルのフレディ・マーキュリー
作詞作曲の最高傑作と思っている。

そのほか、ギターのブライアン・メイの作品では
「It’s Late」、ベースのジョン・ディーコンなら
「You And I」、ドラムのロジャー・テイラーなら
「Sheer Heart Attack」あたりが私の推奨曲だが、
結局のところ、どの作品に関してもメンバー４人で
演奏し、コーラスを加えるなど試行錯誤する過程を
経てQUEENの音楽として完成する。誰もがご存じの
ヒット曲以外の魅力にもぜひ触れてほしい。本当は
もっと語りたいけど、ここは簡潔に。

素敵な曲をたくさん届けてくれたQUEEN、ありがとう。

Thanks to QUEEN. The first album I purchased with the money I earned from my part-time job was "A Day at the Races." The Japanese version was released in January 1977. Actually, I hadn't yet gotten my hands on the previous album, "A Night at the Opera," which features the iconic track "Bohemian Rhapsody," but the impulse to hear the new release as soon as possible won out.

With trembling hands, I slowly dropped the needle onto the vinyl. From the intro of "Tie Your Mother Down," I was exhilarated. Flipping it to the B-side, when the beautiful chorus of "Somebody to Love" began, tears naturally welled up. Even as a teenager, without translating the English lyrics, I could sense the necessity of love being sung about. Personally, I think this is Freddie Mercury's greatest composition and songwriting achievement.

Other recommended tracks include "It's Late" by guitarist Brian May, "You and I" by bassist John Deacon, and "Sheer Heart Attack" by drummer Roger Taylor. In the end, no matter the track, it is the process of the four members playing together and adding choruses that completes the music as QUEEN. I hope you'll also discover the charm beyond the well-known hit songs. Though I would love to say more, I'll keep it concise here.
