October 19, 2024: 7-Eleven （セブンイレブン）
Japan has 3 convenience chain stores: 7-Eleven, Family Mart and Lowson. Among them were Family Mart and Lowson, which did well in the first fiscal half. On the other hand, 7-Eleven did not do as well as other 2 operators. When I saw the results, they have convinced me.
Recently, I have not been using the 7-Eleven stores in my town as much as I used to. The chain has 2 stores near my home, and I used them a lot until a year ago. They are about 5 to 10 minutes walk from my home. But they are further away from a Family Mart. But I had used the 7-Eleven stores until a year ago. They had a better selection than the Family Mart. In particular, they had some good chocolate bread, which were essential for my lunch. But as the times went on, they cut back on the selection and stopped selling them at last. They were forced to do so due to the cacao shortage.
They had also asked me to pay with a self-checkout kiosk. It frustrated me very much. It did not mean that I had to do everything from start to finish. All my purchases were scanned by a shop assisatnt, and all I had to do was pay at the kiosk. But I was always under the assistant's eye until I finished paying. All that time, the assistant was just waiting for me to finish it, frustrating me.
So, I went to a Family Mart store near my home one day. Then, I found that it had a better selection than I expected. It had updated the selection, and the bread range is now better than 7-Eleven’s. And I do not have to pay at a self-checkout kiosk. As a result, I have stopped going to the 7-Eleven stores and now only use the Family Mart store.
I do not know why the 7-Eleven operator did not do well, but the uphill struggle may come from my bad experiences.
日本には3つのコンビニチェーンがあります。セブンイレブン、ファミリーマートとローソンです。その中で、ファミリーマートとローソンの上期は好調だったようです。その一方、セブン-イレブンは他の2社に比べて振るわなかったようです。でも、その結果を見て納得しました。
最近、セブン-イレブンを利用する機会が減りました。セブンイレブンは。家の近所に2件あります。1年くらい前まではよく利用していました。自宅から歩いて5分から10分くらいで、ファミリーマートより遠いのですが、よく利用していました。ファミマより品揃えが良かったからです。特にチョコレートパンがおいしくて、お昼には欠かせませんでした。でも、時の経過とともに、チョコパンの点数を減らし、ついに販売が中止になりました。カカオ不足のため、そうせざるを得なかったのでしょう。
さらに、セルフレジで精算しなければなりません。それがとても不愉快でした。最初から最後までやらなければならないわけではありません。ボクの買い物のスキャンは店員さんがするので、ボクがやることは精算です。でも、精算をを終えるまで、いつも店員さんがボクを監視しているのです。その間、店員さんは、ボクが支払いを終えるのを待っているだけなので、イライラしました。
それで、ある日、家の近くのファミリーマートにいきました。すると、思ったよりも品揃えが良かったのです。品揃えが一新され、パンの品揃えもセブンよりも充実していました。しかも、セルフ精算をする必要がありません。それで、セブンには行かなくなり、今ではファミリマしか利用していません。
なぜセブン-イレブンが不振なのかはわかりませんが、その理由は、ボクの不快な経験にあるのかもしれません。
