September 4, 2022: My Wife (2), Dropping Bomb, Selling Car （僕の妻（2）、爆弾発言、車を売る）

The busy woman dropped a bomb. She suggested selling the car that we just bought as a brand-new one five years ago. It was an inconceivable remark, and I was open-mouthed. I asked her and was convinced of why she would like to sell it. Since my daughter was married and left home, we have hardly driven. My wife now uses it, but not so often. She runs it a few times a week for shopping at supermarkets or a shopping mall near my home. Thus, the mileage is small enough to amaze the car dealer.
As for myself, I am determined not to drive in Japan. Driving on narrow roads in Japan does not work for me. Further, I caused car accidents twice in Europe. They were not serious ones but made me traumatic.
Thus, I fully understand that she wants to sell the car. Selling it will save our living costs. I have left the final decision to her, but she should go to consult the car dealer soon.

　そんな妻から、爆弾発言がありました。5年くらい前に新車で買った車を売ろうかと言い出したのです。思いも寄らぬ発言に、ボクは開いた口が塞がりませんでした。車を売る気になった理由を聞くと、もっとものでした。一番よく運転していた娘が結婚して家をでたため、車と使う機会が激減しました。今、運転しているのは妻です。妻は、週に数回、運転しています。でも、近くのスーパーかショッピングモールに行く程度なので、走行距離
は極めて短いです。ディーラーに車を定期点検に出すと、走行距離が短すぎて飽きられるほどです。
ボクはと言えば、日本で車は運転しないことにしています。日本のような細い道路を運転するのはボクには性に合いません。また、欧州で運転している時に2回ほど事故を起こしました。大した事故ではなかったのですが、これでトラウマになってしまいました。
こんな状態なので、妻が車を売りたくなるのは分かります。コスト面でも、タクシーを使った方が安そうです。最終判断は、妻に任せました。多分、近々、ディーラーに相談しにいくと思います。
