July 4, 2021: EURO 2020 Happy with England’s win, but Landslide in Japan (イングランドの勝利はうれしいですが、日本では地滑りが発生)

Immediately after I woke up around 6:00 a.m. this morning, I checked and found that England beat Ukraine to reach a semi-final against Denmark. It must be a great joy to me. However, I am concerned about natural disasters caused by persistent rain in Japan. Yesterday, Atami city which is a gateway to the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture experienced a landslide, leaving 20 people missing. According to the latest weather forecast, the rain is expected to continue throughout the week. I really hope that there will be no more serious disaster.
In addition to the concern, I find that natural disasters in Japan have produced more serious consequences than ever mainly due to global warming. The Japanese government has established a national resilience plan with the aim of creating society that has strength and flexibility in disasters. In spite of the plan, it is a great pity that natural disasters have taken a heavy toll every year.

 今朝、6時くらいに目が覚めました。早速、インランド対ウクライナ戦の結果を調べたところ、無事、イングランドが勝利しました。大喜びしたいところですが、日本では災害が発生しています。長雨の影響で、熱海市で地滑り発生し、20名の方が行方不明になっています。心配です。天気予報によると、月曜日以降も雨が続くそうです。災害が拡大しないことを願います。温暖化のためかどうかは分かりませんが、日本の自然災害のレベルが上がっているように感じます。従来の発想では、考えられないようなレベルの災害が発生しています。政府は国土強靭化計画を策定していますが、毎年甚大な災害が発生し、人命が失われています。まことに残念。
