November 16, 2022: Annual Checkup (2) , Struggling Patient (2), Competitiveness（人工関節の定期検診 （2）、格闘する患者たち、競争心（2））

When I saw my doctor at the hospital where I had a hip replacement, I used to leave home around 6:00 am to reach there no later than 7:30. But I was never the first to check in there. There were always ten or more patients waiting to check in. I was the twelfth or later.
Seeing patients struggle to get in first made me sad and painful. Among them were patients with their oxygen cylinders. Sometimes, I saw patients quarrel with each other about their queues and orders.
It was not the end of the struggle. As soon as I checked in, I rushed to the radiology department to try to get in first. It had no automatic check-in machines and made me stand in a queue. Then, as soon as a shutter began to open to start check-ins, patients handed their registration cards and scrambled to be the first to get checked in. They look like monkeys that stick their hands out of their cages. I was usually not the first but the second or third there.
Even if we get sick, we never lose our competitiveness.

　これがいやで、ボクは遅くても6時には家を出でて、7時半前には病院に着くようにしていました。それでも、1番になれず、いつも12番以降でした。
病気持ちの人が我先にと順番取りをする姿を見ているともの悲しくなります。中には、酸素ボンベを付けてこの競争に加わる人もいます。また、並ぶ列や順番のことで口論している人も時々見かけました。
　競争はこれ終わりではありません。受付を終えると、放射線科にダッシュして、順番取りを争います。ここには、自動受付機がないので、列に並びます。受付のシャッターが始動すると、シャッターが上がりきらないうちから、診察券を差し出して、先に受付をしてもらおうとします。まるで、檻から手を出している猿のようです。ここでも、ボクは1番になれず、2番か3番でした。
　病気になっても、競争心だけは衰えないようです。
