Another Struggle from 2012　(#1)
（ 2012年に始まった もう一つの闘い ）

　　　　　They never stepped back.
　　　　　　（彼らは　決して　後ろに退(ひ) かなかった。）

　　　　　They kept trying to step forward,
　　　　　　（前へ前へ　踏み出そうと　し続けた）

　　 　　　even if it was only a half step
　　　　　　（たとえ　半歩でも）

　　　　　or an inch.
　　　　　　（たった　1インチでも。）　　　　　

　Although the 2012 band missed out on advancing to the national marching competition, that didn't mean they were any less skilled.
（ 2012 年度のバンドは、全国大会への進出を逃してしまった。しかし、だからといって、彼らの実力が劣っていたというわけではなかった。）

　The biggest barrier that stood in their way was the change in it's regulations, rather than their rival bands. 　
（ 彼らの前に立ちはだかった最大の障壁は、ライバル校のバンドよりも、むしろ、大会の規定の変更だった。）

　This meant, from that year on, it was forbidden to play any instrument by putting it on the floor.
（ すなわち、その年からは、いかなる楽器も床(ゆか) に置いて演奏することが禁止されたのだ。）

　In other words, in essence, a ban on the use of drum sets, timpani, et cetera, which had been a strong part of the band's “Sing, Sing, Sing!“ sound and beat since 2005.
（ つまり、それは要するに、2005年以来、京都橘バンドの『シング・シング・シング！』のサウンドとビートを強力に支えてきたドラム・セット、ティンパニ、といった楽器の使用が禁止されることを意味した。）
