英語日記 No.74
I started learning Korean last month using an app called Duolingo. A decade ago, I studied Korean by listening to NHK radio programs but stopped after passing a beginner-level Korean exam. Have you heard of Duolingo? It's a good app for learning foreign languages, although the free version comes with a lot of advertisements. During the advertisements, I try not to focus on them and instead concentrate on memorizing words by writing them repeatedly in a notebook. I do my best to make the most of the free version.
The reason I started learning Korean is that I wanted to communicate with three Korean students who joined my school three months ago. They arrived without any knowledge of Japanese because their fathers, who work for the Korean government, were assigned to Japan as part of an exchange program with the Japanese government. While their fathers were eager to take on their new roles, their children's lives were disrupted by these job assignments. Initially, the students appeared nervous because they couldn't understand Japanese and adapt to school life. Howevwer, they seemed relieved when I spoke to them in both English and Korean. For the past three months, they have been enjoying their school lives. I want to communicate with them more in Korean, so I resumed studying it right after finishing my Japanese teacher exams.
Thank you for reading my diary.
