Having “qualifications” can be both a strength and a hindrance.
When I see professionals like nurses or pharmacists with qualifications, I often hear people say, “Having a qualification is the ultimate advantage. I envy you.”
Honestly, I used to think the same. I believed, “I must make the most out of my medical qualification!” or “A qualification is always my ally!”
But as we stepped into 2024, my perspective shifted slightly.
Now, I believe, “I don’t have to limit myself because of my qualification.”
The Invisible Walls of a Qualification
For a long time, my nursing license came with the weight of expectations:
“I worked so hard to get this qualification; it would be a waste not to use it.”
“I must pursue a career that makes full use of my license.”
These beliefs were deeply rooted in my mindset. But over time, I realized something important: these are just one set of values, not the only values.
Over-reliance on a qualification can actually narrow your career options. It’s like building invisible walls around your potential.
I’ve come to see that it’s okay to choose a path that isn’t tied to your qualification. Life is about exploring possibilities, living without restrictions, and pursuing the path that feels right for you.
My Journey: From Nursing to Online Business
This is what I want to share with those in healthcare or medical professions who might feel trapped by their licenses:
Nurses, pharmacists, or healthcare workers who feel their qualifications define them.
Professionals passionate about contributing to others in fields like health, beauty, parenting, or wellness.
I want to inspire you to consider other ways to shine and make an impact.
Having worked as a nurse and public health professional for over a decade, I’ve transitioned to working from home and eventually into the world of online business.
This new world—I didn’t even know it existed back then—has broadened my perspective in so many ways.
I loved working in hospitals and public health. I also enjoyed contributing to governmental and private healthcare initiatives.
But now, working in online business has become my favorite way to live and work.
A Message to Fellow Healthcare Professionals
Back then, I thought the world in front of me was all there was. I couldn’t imagine anything beyond the clinical or administrative roles.
Now, I want to reach out to people like my past self—those who feel stuck, unaware of their full potential, or too scared to take the leap.
I hope to be the push that helps you explore a new horizon.
Thank you for reading this piece. I hope it helps you see that a qualification isn’t just a strength—it can sometimes become a shackle. The key is to break free and find the path that truly makes you happy.
