【アニメ感想】英語で地獄楽の第二話を語る! #2

Hello everyone!
Today I am going to write about episode 2 of Hell's Paradise.

Summary of the Story(Spoiler Alert)

The first episode ended with that Gabimaru received an offer of a pardon for death penalty on the condition that he retrieves an elixer of life from "Shinsenkyo."

A bunch of other death rows received a same offer, and they were gathered in front of Shoguns.
The chief of the Shogunate declared that they want to narrow down the members to make a troupe to set off for the mission.

It triggers the death rows to start killing each other to be remaining members. And the selection got more and more intense and brutal.

Meanwhile, Gabimaru stayed still and did not enter the chaos.
The shoguns wondered why such a hollow wouldn't initiate murdering in such a circumstance.

Gabimaru said no one desires to commit murdering against their will to shoguns.
But shoguns merely had a puzzled look on their faces, and seemed to be unconvinced.
So, he had no choice but to join the battle, and he wiped out most of the death rows who attacked him in the blink of an eye.

In the end, he won a selection, and got qualified to be one of the members to embark on the mission.

Finally, Gabimaru and other selected members took a boat to Shinsenkyo along with accompanying executioners for each of them.

My thoughts about episode 2

Sagiri's struggle as a female samurai

In this episode, the main focus was on Sagiri.

The story begins with her childhood memory.
When she was young, she was inspired by his father's beheading skill, which made her decide to become an executioner like him.

But she confront an obstycle of sexism.
Since she was born as a daughter in a household of executioner, other kids mistreated her.

Unlike other child from Yamada Asaemon, she was burden with being a female Samurai.

There was another big problem that she has to get over with.

When she engages in beheadding in execution, she feels sense of fear and hesitation. She still hasn't been able to conquer it.

During the battle for selecting membera for the mission, she looks at Gabimaru killing other death rows with feeling of remorse.

With this, she realized what she needed was not a strength not to fear commiting a kill but a mental to bear deaths she brought about.

I expect Gabimaru's exestance will potentially have a great influence on Sagiri as well in later episodes.

Gabimaru's change from episode 1

There was a scene Gabimaru hesitated to commit killing.

When the battle for selecting the members, Gabimaru insisted on finding other method of selection without killing

Through the battle between Sagiri, he was reminded that committing murdering is what makes his wife sad.

I can clearly see his change from episode 1 to 2.

Still, he eventually engaged in a fight and committed a killing again.
Though he had gain a sense of humanity, he remained his priority for his ultimate goal, seeing his wife.

I could see his ambivalece of remaining to be the hollow for his mission and desiring to live a normal life without murding.

Overall, through these 2 episodes, Gabimaru and Sagiri are both critical for each other for character development.

I am looking forward to see how their relationship will develop as the story goes on!

And, next episode the mysterious island so-called Shinsenkyo will finally be unveil, and I'm so eager to see it!

Thank you for reading!
