Gadgets-Driven Research Method
A happy new year. I will try to work more aggressively this year. I have a lot of ideas that I want to do. But, I don't have much time to do them because I'm not so young. So I must rush to work a little bit more than until now.
By the way, I work for a university as a faculty staff. My current research fields are entertainment computing and media art. Today, I want to introduce my research method to you. I don't know if you're interested in it so much. Anyway, I sometimes start to research using gadgets. Extremely speaking, I bought some gadgets without thinking about research. For example, I bought drones, stage lighting, PC DJ systems, and so on without thinking about their research use. In these cases, I'm purely interested in them and I just want to try to use them. But, after I bought them, I thought about their usage for research or artwork using them as follows:
Drones: Light painting system using a drone
Stage lighting: Live coding performance with stage lights
PC DJ system: Stage lighting performance with a PC DJ system
Namely, many interesting gadgets motivate me so much. Of course, I sometimes buy some gadgets to use in my research work. In such a case, I thought about the research work and then thought about the gadgets. But, sometimes I buy some gadgets without thinking about any research work at all. In such a case, I just want to use them purely. But I always think that everything links to research.
Many undergraduates and graduate students suffer from searching for their research themes or topics. They always tell me that they can't find good research themes or topics. I don't agree with them. I want to tell them about my "Gadgets-Driven" research method.
