Online communication 6/3
Do you like online drinking? I sometimes join online drinking party with my friend. I’m living in foreign country and my city is shut down. So I think I join the party every weekend. I connect with my friends who live in Japan and foreign countries. It is very enjoyable but I often drink too much and too long.
However, I think I’m kind of old fashioned guy. I prefer real communication to virtual. I think it is very difficult to communicate with people online. Of course, online tools are very useful for remote work. And we can keep in touch with people who live in foreign counties. But can we talk with stranger people online? It is possible to get along with first met people online drinking. But I think it is more tough than real communication.
The merit of online talking is that we can communicate with others anywhere and anytime. Actually I talk with Japanese friends in such a situation thanks to online technology. On the other hand, the demerit of online is that we can’t feel the person’s atmosphere and can’t see the reaction of people. In terms of working, it is difficult to chat a small talk and ice breaking. We tend to talk only what we want to convey. Afterward, we finish our call. I think so-called “waste talking” is very essential to make a relationship with others. We have to talk about necessary issue but I think it is not enough.
Online communication is one of the communication tools. But it not the one.
Sometimes we need real communication and small talk. We actually hear people’s voice and see people’s picture on the iPad or laptop in the online meeting/drinking. However I don’t think I can feel people’s atmosphere online.
I hope to go outside and to hung out with my friends soon....
