【My English Journal⑥】Preparing for Eiken Test for the first time
Yesterday’s self-reflection really motivated me to continue putting restless effort into whatever I am interested in, such as English learning. Reflecting on my progress and goals has given me a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
Because I have already taken the TOEIC test several times before, I am well-acquainted with the procedure and quite familiar with the related business vocabulary. This time, I have an eagerness to try something I have never done, so I decided to challenge myself with the Eiken test (an English proficiency test).
I bought a book of previous questions and gave it a try yesterday evening. I found a huge difference between the TOEIC and the Eiken test, especially in the vocabulary section. The Eiken test includes various phrases from daily life to professional fields. This makes me more eager to memorize different vocabulary for further study. The breadth of vocabulary required for the Eiken test excites me, as it will not only improve my English but also broaden my understanding of different contexts and scenarios.
Setting a goal helps make my language learning journey more joyful and engaging. I can consider it as a realistic game where, after overcoming difficulties that I might encounter during the process of achieving the goal, I can proceed to the next level and enhance my English skills. At the same time, I get the opportunity to acquire a certification that is beneficial for my future career. I can kill two birds with one stone. Why not try it immediately?
However, once the goal is set, I need to start by making a practical plan. I still want to keep joyfulness as the top priority. I believe that if learning becomes a burden, I will definitely terminate this journey. Therefore, maintaining a positive and enjoyable learning experience is crucial.
A useful and understandable way to achieve my goal is by making a visualized to-do list and setting aside 15 minutes to summarize the day before going to bed by writing down what I did. Continuously doing this will help me stay highly motivated and give me a sense of achievement.
What I plan to implement is as follows:
1. Have a vocabulary test - Part 1, and take note of the unknown phrases.
2. Do two reading questions.
3. Do a summarizing question.
4. Write an essay every two days.
By following this plan, I aim to create a structured yet flexible approach to my English studies. This method will allow me to track my progress, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate small victories along the way.
Setting and working towards the goal of passing the Eiken test has already brought a sense of direction and excitement to my language learning journey. By implementing a practical and enjoyable study plan, I believe I can achieve this goal while maintaining my enthusiasm for learning.
The journey ahead may be challenging, but I am confident that with dedication and a positive mindset, I can succeed and enjoy every step of the way.
