As AI becomes more a part of life, it 

becomes necessary to decide how far it 

can be trusted with moral decisions. In 

October 2021, researchers at an artificial 

intelligence lab in Seattle unveiled new 

technology designed to make moral 

judgments. It's called Delphi, for the oracle 

that was consulted by the ancient Greeks. 

It was put on a website where people 

could ask it for ethical decisions.

It learns by gathering large amounts of 

data, so Delphi learned morality by 

analyzing 1.7 million moral judgments 

made by ordinary online workers. 

But some people found its answers inconsistent. 

Patricia Churchland, a philosopher at the 

University of California, says ethics are 

intertwined with emotion.

AI like Delphi can learn. But it only learns 

from the information it is given. People 

decide that. The question now is, who can 

we trust to teach morals to a machine?

ーーー道徳的な機械は可能か？ーーー

AIが生活の一部となるにつれ、どこまで道徳的な判断を任せられるか判断する必要が出てくる。2021年10月、シアトルの人工知能研究所の研究者たちは、道徳的な判断を行うために設計された新しい技術を発表した。古代ギリシャ人が相談した神託にちなんで、「デルファイ」と呼ばれています。

デルファイは、人々が倫理的な判断を求めることができるウェブサイトに置かれ、サイト訪問した人達が道徳的な質問が出来るようにしました。大量のデータを集めて学習するため、デルファイは一般のネットワーカーが行った170万件の道徳的判断を分析して道徳を学習しました。人々の中にはデルファイの答えに矛盾を感じる人もいました。

カリフォルニア大学の哲学者であるパトリシア・チャーチランドは、道徳的論理は感情と絡み合っていると言う。デルファイのようなAIは学習することができます。しかし与えられた情報からしか学習しません。それを決めるのは人間です。今問題なのは、機械にモラルを教えるのに、誰を信用できるかということです。
