Hong Kong residents now eligible for special UK visa

A visa scheme to allow Hong Kong residents to come to the UK opens on Sunday, with some 300,000 people expected to apply.
イギリスでは、香港在住者対象のイギリスへの移住ビザプログラムが日曜日に開始し、約30万人が申請する予定。
The visa, which is open to holders of a British national(Overseas) passport and their immediate dependents, will offer a fast track to UK citizenship.
このビザは、英国民（海外）パスポートを持っている人々と、その直接的な扶養家族へイギリス国籍を優先的に与えられる。
But the Chinese foreign ministry said it would no longer recognize the BNO passport as a travel document.
中国政府は英国民（海外）パスポートを旅行用書類として承認しないことにした。
The UK launched the new visas after China imposed a new security law.
イギリスは中国が新しい安全保障法を課した後に新しいビザの計画を始めた。
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the move honored the UK’s “profound ties of history and friendship’’ with the ex-British colony.
ジョンソン首相によると、この計画は元植民地であった香港との「歴史的に重要である友情」に敬意を表している。
Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Zhao Lijian called the scheme a violation of China's sovereignty and gross interference in Hong Kong and China’s internal affairs, the country’s state-affiliated news website the Paper reported.
中国政府連携ニュースウェブサイト「人民日報」によると、中国の外務省代表者である趙立堅はイギリスのビザ計画は中国の統治権を侵害するものであり、国事に対する酷い妨害であったと述べた。

UK opens special visa route for Hong Kong residents to become citizens

The move comes as China and Hong Kong have said they will no longer recognize the British National Overseas(BNO) passport as a valid travel document from Sunday, Jan. 31.
この計画は中国と香港が英国民（海外）パスポートを1月31日から正当な旅券だと承認しない姿勢を公表した後のことだった。
Britain and China have been arguing for months about what London and Washington say is an attempt to silence dissent in Hong Kong after pro-democracy protests in 2019 and 2020.

The Sun has set on the British empire, but it seems that some in London have yet to wake up from their colonial dreams.

Such a political manipulation driven by a colonial thinking is a flagrant interference in China’s internal affairs, which will take another toll on bilateral ties and further hurt Britain’s own long-term interests.
