Mr. Bobanchi's "Ubazamen"! The retro nostalgic coloring is attractive! A filter feeder monster, created by Mr. Bobanchi, who has various talents!
This time, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Bobanchi! He also appeared in the
Creators Market the other day!
He was a very friendly person. I got the impression from talking with him that he really likes toys.
Bobanchi is a toy manufacturer called "Bobanchi Works", and they produce a variety of toys including felt, resin and SOFUBI. Among them, the most famous ones are Shiritori (Butt-Bird), Robo-Banchi and Ubazamen!
Of course, the design of the work and the coloring sense used as the motif are wonderful, but above all, the paint that gives off a unique taste is attractive.
Painting "Yoshiko" by [Kakkowarai]! It's painted with a brush, isn't it!? It was
really good! It was already mid-morning, but it was sold out by the time I got there, which was a shame, but I wanted it!
Mr. Bobanchi's paint has Japanese style colors and patterns, so it was very nice that the atmosphere and coloring of the work was very similar to the Japanese "Yokai" (apparition) character "Yoshiko". Mr. Bobanchi also said that he would not resell it, so I wanted to see it live.
And this time, I'd like to introduce "Ubazamen", one of Bobanchi's works that I've wanted for a long time and was able to purchase at "Cre-Ma"(Creators Market as short).
This time, Felt, resin, SOFUBI and brush painting! The filter feeding monster, created by the multi-talented "Bobanchi" version! so, I would like to do it.
So, here are three Ubazamen and a wooden mummy!
I'm really sorry, but until now I have thought of this Ubazamen as "Ubanzame"...
It's "UBAZAMEN"!
I've been posting few on SNS as "Ubanzame".
When I talked to the artist at "Cre-Ma", I used the word "Ubanzame"...
Excuse me, sir! It's "UBAZAMEN"!
And it's got this big mouth! It's a filter-feeding monster,
Filter feeding is a type of animal feeding for animals, which food is filtered through the tentacles and gills. They use their well-developed gills and tentacles like filter paper or a colander to eat food that is caught in their gills.
They filter water and chase pray while swimming in free swimming with their mouths open. These include basking sharks and whale sharks.
So, that's why this Ubazamen is a filter-feeding monster!
"Ubazamen" started production around 2016, but at first it was made made from resin. It seems that it was not a monster at that time, but in 2019, it was made into a SOFUBI figure, and now it's available in a variety of colors.
And this bodysuit-like decoration on it's chest is made of resin. It's a mixture of SOFUBI and resin!
And if you look closely, you can see it's a crab!
This is the kind of detail that makes me think that he love toys. The motif of this figure is Takara's Microman, and the removable parts of his chest have been recreated as a crab breast version. It's true that Microman's body parts look like a pattern of some kind, but the sense of designing it as a crab is really something to behold!
And here's a profile of "Ubazamen":
The gentle shark, the basking shark. They were ridiculed by mankind as "stupid shark", and got overfished, and they resurrected as monsters and vow to revenge on mankind.
BUT!
Originally a filter-feeding creature, the "Ubazamen" does not have ferocious teeth. Vengeful, they've come ashore with the Shark Gun, a glove with the abilities of a great white shark, on their right arm!
I see! Indeed, if you look at it that way, you can see the ferocious teeth on the
shark gun on the right arm!
And 3 to 8 meters tall (9.8' to 26.2')! And weights 4 to 10 tons (8818.49lb to
22046.2ld)! And from Norway! Is what the profile said!
Well, I'm very happy that I finally bought the crab breast this time. It's this
coloring pattern that can only be done with clear SOFUBI body, but I think that it is really irresistible for those who like it.
And this "Ubazamen" is wearing a felt cloth outfit! He's also made a lot of works with felt fabric, and one of his most famous work is a bird called the "Shiritori", which is a cute little bird with a plump butt!
Earlier, it was SOFUBI and resin,
this one's made of SOFUBI and felt fabric! You can even put it on and take it off!
It's also nice to combine SOFUBI with different ornaments - I think the softness of the felt material and the soft ambience of the SOFUBI go well together.
Also, I personally like this tag - it has a nostalgic feel that people who know it
will understand. And the loop lock that holds the tag? I can feel the love for the toy from the fact that the tag can be hooked on.
They also have an activity called "The Bobanchi General merchandise Research institute" , so I guess they're researching various combinations!
He started out making sundry goods, and now he seems to be making toys.
Like the wood-carved doll here, they're made and painted with a brush, so there are all sorts of interesting works with techniques and ideas!
Mr. Bobanchi is really versatile. The design sense of the work is good, the coloring choice is wonderful, and with that brush painting, I'm looking forward to the next work!
