CCS(二酸化炭素回収貯留)

NEDO Silicon Valley Foresight Seminars:
You are cordially invited to an in-person seminar exploring Innovation in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS).
Global climate change is driven by an excessive accumulation of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere and oceans.
To prevent the worst consequences of warming, humanity needs to reduce atmospheric CO2 from the current level of 421 ppm to pre-industrial levels 280-350 ppm in order to stay below 2℃ warming.
This requires extracting at least 10 gigatons of CO2 annually by 2050 and 20 Gt/year by 2100.
Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) refers to a suite of technologies that can help meet global energy and climate goals by capturing CO2 from hard to abate, large point sources, such as power generation or industrial facilities that use either fossil fuels or biomass as fuel.
The CO2 can also be captured directly from the atmosphere or from the ocean.
If not being used on-site, the captured CO2 is compressed and transported by pipeline, ship, rail or truck to be used in a range of applications, or injected into deep geological formations, which can trap the CO2 for permanent storage.
As of October 2022, there were around 35 commercial facilities applying CCUS to industrial processes, fuel transformation and power generation.
