どこまでが夢だったんだろう　Saburo doesn’t know if it’s a dream or reality

　夏休みのある日、お母さんが麓の駅の近くまで買物に出掛けたので、三郎君は一人でお留守番だ。
　三郎君は涼しい風の入って来る奥の座敷にねそべって、世界名作童話の「宝島」(イギリスの作家スチーブンソンの作品)を読んでいたが、いつかぐっすりと眠りこんでいる。午前中に小学校のプールに泳ぎに行ったので、その疲れが出たのだろう。
Oneday of his summer break Saburo is at home alone as caretaker while his mother go out for shopping to a shop near the station of the foot of the mountain.
Saburo is lieing down on TATAMI of room which calls cool breeze and reeding Treasure Island written by Stevenson. While doing so he is sleeping deeply. He went to swim for swimming class of his elementary school in the forenoon so he may be so tired.

　三郎君は夢を見ている。仲好しの清君と宝探しに出掛ける夢だ。さっきまで読んでいた「宝島」のようなところがどこかにないだろうかと、家の者にはないしょで朝早く出掛けることになった。
　途中で清君が言った。
「僕の秘密の場所に行くと、そこには大きなサイカチの樹があって、甲虫や鍬形虫が沢山集まっているんだ。
　三郎君、玉虫を知ってるかい。その近くの山桜の木には、きれいな緑金色をした玉虫もいるんだよ」
　「玉虫もいるの、それはすてきだな。僕の叔母さんの家のたんすの中に、乾燥した玉虫が入れてあるのを見たことあるよ。玉虫を入れて置くと縁起がよくて着物が沢山たまるんだって、叔母さん大切にしていたよ。ぼくお母さんが喜ぶだろうからぜひ玉虫つかまえたいな」
　三郎君の声ははずんで思わず大きな声になった。
　「しっ、このことは君と二人だけの秘密なんだから、どこで取って来たか誰にも黙っているんだよ。うちのひとにも絶対ないしょだよ。こうした秘密はたいてい家族に漏らしたことから崩れるんだから」
　清君は声をひそめて、大人みたいな口振りでこう言った。
「それからね。もう一つ重大な重大な秘密があるんだよ。一度に秘密をみんな打ち明けてしまうなんて惜しい気もするけれど、僕一人では荷が重いからね。三郎君の協力をお願いするよ
」
　清君の話し振りはいよいよ大人っぽくなった。清君は彼のお父さんにきいた話から、この探検を考えるようになったのだそうだ。お父さんの話と言うのはこうだ。
　「この辺の山からは、昭和の前の大正時代までは、瑪瑙が沢山とれたそうだ。甲府市内のみやげ物屋に並べられている瑪瑙細工の原料になる原石だよ。昭和になってからは、この辺の山ではもう瑪瑙は取りつくされたと言うことで、今では昔瑪瑙が取れたことも殆んど忘れられてしまったが、またどこかに人の眼につかなかった瑪瑙原石がかくれているのではないかな」
　三郎君は瑪瑙のことはよく知らない。でもこれを見つけ出したら二人とも大金持ちになれるかも知れない。そしたら今度は、どこか無人島にかくされた宝を探しに行くんだと胸がわくわくして来た。　
　山道に入って来たので、あたりは蝉の鳴声がうるさい程だ。秘密の場所にだんだん近づいて来るので、二人とも探検家になったような気分で真剣な顔で、草いきれの中を背の高い草をかき分けながら山道を登っている。
Saburo is in his dream.
It’s a dream that he goes for treasure hunting with his good friend Kiyoshi. They become to go without thier family’s knowledge in the early morning for looking for one place where looks like Treasre Island he has read.
On the way Kiyoshi says
“I have a secret place. There is a big honey locust in there and I can see many beetles and stag beetles are gathering on that tree.
Saburo, do you know jewel beetle? In the mountain in the near distance beautiful jewel beetles colored green and gold live on wild cherry tree. “
“Jewel beetles? What a wonderful! I have found dried jewel beetle in drawer of my aunt. She cherish it and said that jewel beetle is fortunate so KIMONO becomes increase in drawer. I want to get jewel beetle so much for my mother. “
Saburo says in the loud and excited voice. “Shush! This is secret only between I and you. So you should never say to everybody where you get it. You should never say to your members of your family, too. We know that secret leaks out by saying to close person. “
Kiyoshi says lower in the voice looks like grown up.
“And I have one more important secret. I feel it’s so regrettable that I disclose my all secret though it’s so big burden to have this secret alone. Saburo, I ask for your cooperation.”
Kiyoshi’s voice becomes to look like grown up more.
I know that Kiyoshi has become to have plan of this exproration due to hear story of his father.
His father’s story is like this.
“I heard that we could mine many agates from moutains around here untill Taisho era before Showa era. Those are raw stone of agate works which are soled at souvenir shop in Kohu city. But in Showa era those were exhausted at mountains around here so people have almost forgotten that we could mine many agates. But I wonder if there were raw stones of agate which were hidden at place nobody knows.”
Saburo doesn’t good about agate. But he thinks that if found agates they might were rich men and then they could go for expedition to find treasures which were hidden at one uninhabited island. He becomes to be exsiting about this plan.
Because they walk much on the road place around there is filled with voices of cicadas and they bocome to be felt noiisy.
As the secret place comes near their face become serious. They climb on mountain road with feeling as they are explorer and pushing aside in grasses which have grown up so tall in fimes of grass.

　「三郎君、竜谷山に遊びに行かないか」
　近所の同級生の清君の声で、三郎君は夢から覚めた。
　「ぼく、いまお留守番なんだよ」
　「あら、ぐうぐう眠りこんでいて、お母さんが入って来たのも知らずにいて、それでお留守番の役がつとまったんですか。いいから清さんと遊びにお出掛けなさい。西瓜を冷やして置きますから、帰りには清さんもおよりなさいな」
　いつの間に帰って来たのだろう、お台所でお母さんが何か片づけごとをしながらそう言った。
　「僕ね、竜谷山にすばらしいところを見つけたんだ。宝の山みたいなところだよ」
　「ええ？宝の山？僕さっき夢の中で、君と一緒に宝探しの探検に出掛けたところなんだよ」
　「ああそうなの。でも僕が言う宝物は、甲虫や鍬形虫や、それとこの頃では珍しくなった玉虫のことなんだよ」
　「そうだ、その通りなんだ。夢の中とそっくりだ、不思議だなぁ」
　山道に入ろうとするところで三郎君は声をひそめて清君に言った。
　「それともう一つ、もっと大きな秘密があるんだろ、そら瑪瑙のことだよ」
　「ああそのことももう君に洩らしちゃったんだね。そうなんだよ。その瑪瑙をみつけることが、探検の本当の目的なんだ。
　三郎君、このことは家族の者にも絶対に秘密にすることを守ってくれるね。こうした秘密は、たいてい家族に洩らしたことから崩れることが多いんだからね」　
　清君は夢の中と同じように、急に大人ぶった口振りで三郎君に、秘密を守る誓いを求めた。
　急な登りになり細い山道は、生い茂った夏草にかくれるほどになっていて、二人は草いきれに汗を流しながら登り続けた。

「三郎君、山へ遊びに行かないか」
　清君の声で
　「おや、いままでのことはみな夢だったのだろうか。おかしいな」
　三郎君はまだ頭がはっきりしない。台所の方を見ると、夢の中と同じようにお母さんが片付けごとをしている。
　「お母さん、いつ帰って来たの？」
　「お留守番がぐうぐう眠っていたんじゃお留守番役にはなりませんよ」
　「おかしいなあ、さっき一度僕は目を覚まして、お母さんが帰っていたので、清君と一緒に竜谷山に宝探しに出かけたんだがなあ」
　「なにをねぼけたこと言ってるの。清さんにわらわれますよ。さあ清さんが待っているから一緒にお出掛けなさい。二人が帰ってくるまでに、西瓜をよくひやしておきますからね」
　三郎君も清君と同じように白い帽子をかぶり虫籠を下げて外に出た。
　山へ向かう道を歩きながら三郎君は、もし清君が次のように言い出したらどうしようと、恐ろしいようでもあり、わくわくするようでもあった。
「三郎君、僕は素晴らしいところを知っているんだ。君、玉虫を知っているかい。これから玉虫や甲虫や鍬形虫がいっぱいいるところを教えてあげるよ。二人だけの秘密の場所にしよう」
　そう言われたら三郎君は思わず飛びあがって叫ぶだろう。
　「ああ、どこまでが夢なんだ。どこから目が覚めて本当になるんだ。清君は瑪瑙のことも言い出すんだろうか」

“Saburo! Why don’t you go to Mount Ryukoku?”
Saburo opens his eyes from his dream by the voice of Kiyoshi who is his classmate in neighborhood.
“I am a caretaker now.”
“Wow! Was you a caretaker? I knew you were sleeping while I went to shopping and you didn’t notice that I came back. You are not a caretaker now so you may be free. How about going mountain with Kiyoshi? I will cool water melon for you two. So please drop in on our home and eat water melon.
Saburo’s mother says as pulling things together at kitchen.
“I found wonderful place at Mount Ryukoku. That’s looks like Treasure Mountain.”
“Wow! Treasure Mountain? I’ve gone to expedition for finding treasure with you in my dream.”
“I see. But you know I would treat beetles, stag beetles and jewel beetles which is rare as treasure.
“That’s right! It is same what you say now with what you said in my dream. This is so strange feeling.”
When they reach a entering point of mountain road, Saburo says to Kiyoshi in low voice
“You have one more! You have a bigger secret, don’t you? It’s agate, isn’t it?”
“Yes! I have said you about it, haven’t I?
Yes! It’s the most important purpose to mine agates.
Saburo, I want you to promise me that you should never say about it even though members of your family. A secret like this must be going to leak out when you talk about it to a member of your family.”
Kiyoshi requires Saburo to have swear of keeping secret in the voice  which change completely to be like grown up as same as in Saburo’s dream. Slope of mountain road becomes to be steep. Narrow road of mountain looks like to be coverd with summer grasses overgrown.
They continue to climb with sweatting in the air which is thick with the fumes of grass.

“Saburo! Why don’t you go to mountain?”
That is Saburo’s voice.
“Huh? I wonder that all happended are dream. That’s strange. “
Saburo’s head isn’t still clear. When he look at kitchen Saburo’s mother pulls things together.
“Mom! When did you come back?”
“When I came back you were sleeping deeply. You were not a good caretaker. “
“It’s so strange. At that time I woke up and went to Mount Ryukoku for expedition of finding treasure with Kiyoshi because my mother has come back.”
“Don’t sad that you are half asleep. You may be laughed by Kiyoshi. He is waiting for you from a while ago so you should go with him. I will cool water meron for you two untill you come back. “
Saburo goes out from room with white cap as same as Kiyoshi with having insect cage over his shoulder.
By walking on the road to mountain Saburo feels exciting and scared due to that how he must do if Kiyoshi said like next.
“Saburo! I know a wonderful place. Do you know jewel beetle? Now, I will take you to the place in where beetles, stag beetles and jewel beetles live. Let’s make that place to secret place of only you and I. “
If he was told that by Kiyoshi he should jump inboluntarily and call out.
“I don’t know if it’s a dream or reality! I wonder if Kiyoshi said about agate. “
