全米保健統計センター（National Center for Health Statistics：NCHS）およびDivision of Vital Statistics出生率オンラインデータベースを用い、アプガースコア 5分値10点であった割合を、人種ごとに比較。黒人の新生児は白人の新生児と比較して、5分間のアプガースコアが10点である確率が53％低かった（OR 0.47）。白人の新生児（非ヒスパニック系およびヒスパニック系）は、すべての人種および民族でアプガースコア10点の割合が最も高かった。
