What’s up with everyone using Zoom nowadays as opposed to Discord or Hangouts, other free programs that were well-known before the pandemic?

I think the biggest reason people don't use Discord is its branding. Discord branded itself for gamers and nerds, however, that has become its Achilles' Heel. It's such a powerful tool for community management, and its branding has kind of limited its audience.

I'd also argue that Zoom is better for people with varying degrees of internet connectivity. Discord really sucks up bandwidth because it's connecting you across multiple channels simultaneously. Zoom is focused solely on providing a stable video feed.

one of the advantages of Zoom is that only the organizer needs to have an account, whereas for Facebook, Discord, Hangouts, everyone needs their own account friend up.

Our team was using Hangouts at first but it has a bug where if you have multiple people and they keep muting/unmuting the mic after some period (usually very fast) the room would have some white noise, even if everyone's mic is off, until you left and rejoined the call.

個人的には真ん中の「アカウント登録を必要としない」が大きそうだと感じました。
参加しやすさ大事。
