「The beauty baron and Lady Letitia: Unconventional fateful encounter. 」working title, the first half : Japanese light novels

Lady Letitia Iris du Dantis, the sole daughter of the venerable House of Dantis, a family with a ten-generation legacy, was renowned for her stunning beauty. Adored by her three handsome elder brothers, Letitia was a delicate girl of ethereal beauty.
Her ethereal beauty made her seem almost otherworldly. Her allure was undeniable, captivating all who laid eyes upon her. She had a figure of captivating grace. Her charm captivated all, from young town boys to elderly nobles and even the ladies of the court.
The title of "Realm's Most Beautiful Lady" meant nothing to her. Letitia had realized early in life that she possessed a certain allure that drew people to her, a fact that had long been a source of distress.
She was often called 'adorable Letitia' and 'the innocent princess,' from a young age. She had been exposed to curiosity from lecherous advances, persistent admirers, and even attempted abductions, despite her family's efforts to protect her. These experiences had profoundly affected her.
As time passed, Letitia withdrew from social gatherings, unintentionally adding to her mystique. Her hidden life attracted more and more followers, but none had ever managed to win her heart.
“Letitia, my dear,” her father began at a rare family luncheon, “perhaps it’s time you started thinking seriously about your marriage.”
“Yes, Letitia,” her eldest brother, the heir to the dukedom, added, “you’ll be turning twenty next month. Most noblewomen your age have already begun to establish families.”
Letitia's marriage was a frequent topic of conversation in the Dantis household. Her brothers were all married with children of their own.
Letitia had been living in the annex lately, though she often visited the main estate.
A lavish luncheon for the family, served on fine china and silverware, began in the luxurious dining room of the main building.
"Oh, really? You've rejected every suitor presented to me. Now that I'm almost twenty, you expect me to marry and leave? How inconsistent!"
“It’s not like that, Letitia,” her brother said gently.
“Please don't misunderstand, dear. We just want you to be happy.”
“Happy? By marrying some vulgar and empty-headed person who only cares about my looks and my dowry? You must be joking! No thank you.”
"I'm not saying you have to leave, Letitia, but you can't stay single forever, can you??"
" You're seriously planning to do something as inhuman as kicking me out? Oh, I'm scared, unbelievable."
" Letitia, they're just trying to help. Don't take it so negatively."
"Father, do you have the same opinion as your sons? To sell me to men who are only interested in material wealth and carnal pleasures. You don't care about me?"
  "That's not what I meant... "
" Letitia, your words are unbecoming of a lady of your station...."
"Mother, please accept, this is who I am. I have been exposed to the lust of men, men, women, and men since childhood. How could I have stayed pure and innocent in such circumstances? I have dedicated myself to my studies, honed my skills in horsemanship and swordsmanship, and am fluent in four languages. I want to discuss various things, but all they want from me is this face, which they say is cute, and this well-proportioned body that will surely make me a popular high-class cortigiana. They want a mindless beauty doll, not me. Or, do you expect me to be a puppet, either?"
These unexpected words, so unlike the image she cultivated, burst from her lips. Yes, this was the true Letitia, known only to a select few.
Letitia had always been independent and outspoken. She had no interest in the typical life of a noblewoman. She preferred to spend her time studying, practicing swordsmanship, and pursuing her interest in business. She was fluent in some languages and passionate about politics, history, and philosophy.
“I always said I aspire to be like Lord Joan Houston!” She declared, referring to the renowned female knight. “Or, alternatively, I want to be like her sister, Mis. Aria, who married into the wealthy merchant family. I want to be independent, strong, and knowledgeable, not just a pretty face‼”
"Very well," her father said, his voice heavy. "There is something important I must tell you."
Letitia fell silent at the sight of her father's pained expression.
"The truth is... I have received an order from the King. If you don't find a fiancée within three months, you will be forced to marry the fourth prince of the neighboring country of Earth."
A heavy silence fell over the room.
"Well... unless Letitia does not marry, young men can't give up on you. And as a result, young ladies can't get married either. I heard that many aristocratic families had sent petitions to the king saying that their children and daughters are having trouble getting married. "
"I understand," Letitia stated firmly, rising to her feet. "I do not like to be forced into a marriage. I'll find a husband myself. Which family is hosting the evening party tonight? One of you will accompany me. I'll secure a husband tonight. I need to prepare, so excuse me."
With that, she left the room.
  The Duchess sighed in relief.
"... Whatever her reasons, I am glad that she is finally considering marriage."
"Yes, that's right. Let's all work together to help her find a man she likes."
  "Yes!"
"That's right, isn't tonight the night of the Duke of Wordsense's masked ball?"
"Yes. It's not exactly a classy evening party, but it's perfect in terms of scale and safety."
"Alright, then, as the eldest brother, I'll accompany you here."
"Let's work together to help her."
Letitia strode back to her villa, her emotions evident in her determined gait..
In the grand hall, she found several young women diligently working on clothing. These were commoner girls she had befriended at a handmade market in the castle town years ago. She had recruited them to help her develop her own clothing brand, teaching them advanced embroidery and sewing techniques.
“Hello, my lady. We are making the final touches now, and it will be ready soon.”
"Thank you, everyone. Oh, can I wear this dress tonight?" Letitia asked, her eyes sparkling.
"Well... Lady Letitia, are you going somewhere?" Letitia's ladysmaid Lino inquired, her voice filled with curiosity.
“Yes, Lino. Prepare a bath for me, please. I've decided to attend a soiree tonight to find a suitable husband.”
  "Marry...? My lady, what's happened...?"
Lino and everyone eyes wide with surprise.
"I have to be married within three months, or else I'll be forced to marry a prince from a neighboring country by royal decree," Letitia explained.
  “Oh, no. ......!”
“Oh, my ... What will become of us...?”
The girls stopped working and looked anxiously at Letitia. They are comrades who share Letitia’s dream of opening a boutique and getting rich quickly.
If she were to marry and leave, their plans would be jeopardized.
"Don't worry, everyone," Letitia reassured them. "I'll find someone I can get along with. Just focus on finishing this dress now."
“Certainly, my Lady. I hope you find a suitable gentleman.”
“That's right, Lady Laetitia can do it!"
The girls, reassured by her words, returned to their work.
Later, when Letitia soaked in a luxurious bath, Lino asked. "My lady, are you seriously going to the soiree to find a husband?"
Yes, I am," Letitia replied, with a fearless smile and a determined glint in her eye. "I'm going to find a good husband who won't hinder my plans. So, please look forward to it."

The Duke of Wardsen's masked ball was always a popular event, drawing a large crowd. Rigorous identity checks at the entrance ensured the safety and exclusivity of the event for the nobility.
While most women adorned themselves in brightly colored, voluminous gowns, Letitia wore a simple, slim-shaped dress of dark blue. A veil, hidden beneath her mask, further concealed her identity.
"Shall we dance?" her brother suggested.
"No, thank you," she replied. I'll be at the table in the back of the green garden. Please inform me if you need anything. "
"Why? Aren't you here to find a suitable match?" her brother asked, puzzled.
" I'm not interested in a crowded marketplace of eligible suitors." She responded with a straight face.
Letitia wandered through the familiar halls, her steps purposeful. The estate had two beautiful gardens; a vibrant flower garden and a serene green garden. The latter was her preferred retreat, a place of quiet contemplation.
She found her usual spot at a secluded table and overheard a nearby conversation.
There were young men talking. Letitia quietly sat down on the bench in front of her so as not to be noticed, and she heard young men's voices.
"I appreciate your concern, Broad," a soothing voice said. "But I doubt I'll find my bride here."
"Give up already?" another man's voice, more bluntly, retorted. "You've come all this way."
“You saw what happened earlier. No woman would want to marry a poor, orphaned baron with no other family connections."
Letitia's interest piqued. The elegant voice and the candid conversation, she found his voice pleasant.
"Forget about their expectations," the blunt voice continued. "What kind of woman are you looking for? What kind of girl do you have in mind?"
“My preferences? Well, let’s see. First and foremost, someone who will cherish Samantha, my younger sister. They should be a man of integrity, someone who appreciates simple pleasures. Healthy, adventurous, and open-minded. Someone who values honesty and independence. A person who eats anything without being picky. Someone who doesn't constantly demand reassurances of love. They should be capable, both physically and mentally. And…”
“Hey, is there more? How about looks? Cute, mature, glamorous, etc.?”
“I’m not so picky about looks, but if I had to say, I’m not a fan of the cute type that you like. I prefer a clean, uncluttered look.”
“Oh, that's exactly like your big sister! ”
“Well, I prefer someone familiar. I'm more comfortable with people I know well. And, yes, I want someone who appreciates me for more than just my looks.”
“Haaaaah. It’s a very sarcastic way of putting it, but your face is certainly good. You're not popular as a marriage partner, but you are attracted more attention from women seeking a less serious relationship. You are such a kind and sincere person... It's a shame you're having trouble finding a wife.”
Hearing this, Letitia was convinced. This was God’s guidance. She must not miss this opportunity. She must seize this chance as soon as possible! Letitia stood up and walked towards the table in the back.
“Excuse me for the rudeness of listening to you two in silence. I am… Titi. Actually, I am also currently looking for a marriage partner. If you don’t mind, may I talk to you about various things?”
The young men were startled by her sudden, melodious voice. Letitia bowed politely in front of the table where the two were sitting.
“It is nice to meet you, Titi. I am Simon. Please take a seat.” One of the men stood up and pulled out a chair as he said this. Letitia was surprised by his smooth and elegant movements. He had a rare silver-grey hair color, was neither tall nor short, and had a rather slim build. The same soft, pleasant voice and way of speaking from earlier. And beautiful posture and manners. Even though his eyes were covered by a mask, his good looks were clearly visible. I guess he’s the prince type, popular with young women. He's quite handsome, but not my ideal type. However, that's not important. Thinking this, Letitia sat down in the chair she was offered.
“Um, uh… Simon, should I take myself out?”
  “No, you’re welcome.”
  “I’m fine too.”
“R-Really? Well then…” Mumbling, his friend settled back into his seat. From his sturdy build, short hair, and rough way of speaking, she guessed he was a swordsman.
“Well, let me start by saying that I come from a family of some standing. Due to certain circumstances, I am looking for someone to marry me immediately.”
“I see…” For a moment, an awkward atmosphere spread.
“Um, I know it may seem rude of an outsider to ask, but is that the circumstances?”
  “Is that so?”
“I mean, there is usually only one reason why someone needs to get married in a hurry, right? Had a child with someone they are not married to.…”
“Broad, you better be careful with your words.” Simon frowned and interrupted his friend.
Letitia was confused for a moment, then realized.
“I apologize if my words caused any misunderstanding. I am not pregnant.”
“N-not at all…” Ignoring his friend Broad, who was blushing, Letitia continued, looking firmly into Simon’s eyes.
“Simon, I have three older brothers. I have always wanted a little sister. I think I would get along well with your sister. I already have some favorite dresses and jewelry, so there's no need for you to buy them for me. Also, I am currently planning a clothing business, so we could run it together as a family business for Simon. I am confident in my health, and as long as it is cooked, I will eat almost anything, even insects. I have no experience in farming on the territory, but I love gardening, so I have even researched the soil mixture myself. I am very curious. Ay family has tried to stop me from doing things, so I would like my husband to be someone who will give me freedom. Oh, and when I say freedom, I don’t mean that I will cheat on my husband. I am proficient in horse riding and swordsmanship. Is there anything else that is important to you as a wife?”
Simon noticed that Letitia's tone had changed dramatically from her initial sweet and formal demeanor.
"I'm also quite adept at social situations. But as you said earlier, I also want to be honest with my partner. This is truly who I am. I value equal partnership. I don't need to be pampered by my future husband. Rather, I would like to be recognized as a reliable partner. I hope that he will recognize me not as someone to protect his wife, but as an equal friend."
"Not as someone to protect, but as an equal friend..."
  "Yes!"
"W-wait a second, Simon, can we talk for a second? Miss Titi, excuse me."
  "Sure."
Broad put his arm around Simon's shoulder and left the table.
"Simon, she's a bit bloody crazy, you know??"
  "Pardon me?"
"Yeah, she's not your average girl. I think she might be a bit off the wall."
"Don't be rude. If anything, she speaks in a logical, concise, and intelligent way."
"That's why it's her logical way of speaking that's the problem. Have you ever seen a young lady like that anywhere else? She's planning a business, researching soil mixtures, eating insects, and doesn't want to be pampered by her husband! That's not normal, is it?"
"I am not normal either. I think I could genuinely consider marriage with her."
"Alright, do you think that young lady can really control a horse and fight with a sword?"
"You think she might be exaggerating?”
"Yeah, it's possible that she's bluffing, right?"
"Well, let's check if her words are true."
Simon returned to Letitia. Broad ran off somewhere.
"Lady, I'm intrigued by your story. Excuse me, but may I test your skills?"
"Yes. You're welcome to try anything."
"Thank you. In that case, I'd like to try a sword fight. My friend has gone to get a wooden sword. "
"I understand. While we wait, may I ask you some questions?" "Of course."
The two of them are alone. They look at each other and talk quietly.
"So, how many children do you think you'd like to have?"
"How many children? ...I've never really given it much thought."
  "You don't want children…?"
"No, that's not what I mean… My elder sister once told me that children are a gift. There are cases where you can't have them even if you want them, and there are also cases where you can have them even if you don't want them. However, in the current situation where a couple can't have children, the husband's responsibility is not taken into consideration and it is in most cases the wife's fault. After hearing that from my sister, I started to think that the idea that I absolutely wanted a child could potentially hurt someone. Although I would be happy if I had children, it would be fine if I couldn't have them. Adoption is also an option, of course."
"That's... you have a wonderful sister."
"Yes, I'm proud of my elder sister."
The fragile beauty of Simon's smile was so captivating that it couldn't be contained by a mask. Letitia calmly thought that it would be rare to find such a handsome man.
"Sorry to keep you waiting!" Broad was out of breath as he brought out two slender wooden swords.
"Thank you, Broad. Now, Shia. I'm sorry to trouble you, but would you like to spar with me?"
  "Yes, I'd be happy to."
They both gripped their wooden swords and moved to a larger area. "Lady, this guy may look gentle, but he's actually quite a good swordsman. If you push yourself too hard, you'll get hurt. If you're going to quit, now is the time..."
"Thank you Sir, for your advice. By the way, this dress of mine is not an ordinary one. It's made for moving around, so please don't hesitate to drive your sword into me. You can't understand the true nature of your opponent unless you fight seriously."
Simon was beginning to be interested in Letitia, who ignored Broad's gentle advice and instead provoked him. I want to know. I want to know more about this woman. He had never been so interested in a woman before.
The two of them, with wooden swords in their hands, faced each other.
  Neither could find an opening.
Simon made the first move. He swung his sword towards her head.
She parried his sword with a clang, and simultaneously slid the tip of her sword towards Simon's neck.
Simon reacted instantly, leaning back to dodge the attack.
  "...You're kidding me..."
Even Broad could realize that Letitia wasn't just an ordinary person.
  A loud clang echoed.
Just as Simon was about to attack, Letitia counterattacked fiercely.
Their smooth exchange of blows was like a beautiful dance.
"How enjoyable!" Letitia thought with a smile.
So engrossed in the fight, Letitia didn't notice a third person approaching.
"Wh-what are you doing? Stop it! Stop right now!!"
  "Brother? Ah...!"
Distracted by her brother's voice, Letitia froze, and Simon's wooden sword struck her arm. With a bang, the wooden sword fell to the ground.
  "Leticia!" "Lady Titi!"
Simon immediately rushed to Leticia's side and took her hand.

to be continued…
