With the end of the rainy season, summer has officially begun. "Kiri Hajimete Hana o Musubu" occurs around July 22 to July 27. The delicate, light purple paulownia flowers bloom and begin to bear fruit. Paulownia trees, known for their rapid growth, play a significant role in this seasonal transition. Paulownia in Daily Life and Tradition
Historically, when a girl was born, a paulownia tree was planted. When she came of age and married, the tree was used to make her dowry chest. Even if you've never seen a paulownia flower, you might recognize its symbol on everyday items like the back of the 500 yen coin or on your passport, where the paulownia crest is engraved.
