Let's create Future Mobility!

A workshop stimulating children to think about
“Zero-Carbon Cities and Mobility Solutions” for future

Hi, I am Elisabeth from Austria and I am glad that I was able to join the ”Workation Welcome Days” in the city of Chikuma, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

The participation and organization of the “Future Mobility” Workshop is my third visit to the region and the third time I am enjoying the nature as well as the creative mindset of people participating in the ”Workation Welcome Days” and the Mobility Workshop, this time especially the children’s.

As a member of the EY Commercial Vehicle and Mobility team, I was in charge of organizing a Workshop with the purpose of stimulating children to “think” about their future living and also develop creative solutions with a special focus on Zero-Carbon solutions.
The children were instructed to think about their own future, their ideal way of living, the means necessary to fulfill mobility needs and learned through drawing and crafting how to give shape to their own ideas.

Even through, only simple methods were applied, and eco-friendly materials prepared (such as clay, wooden blocks, papers, cotton wool, etc.) I was personally surprised with the creativity of the children’s output.

The children, I believe, really enjoyed it too, especially the modeling, and some even forgot the time during working.
It also should be noted that, the Mobility Workshop is designed as a long-term program with several stages and midterm goals.

In regards to the progressing effects of climate change and increasing disasters here in Japan as well as in Europe, I strongly believe further initiatives need to be taken in order to strive for an emission free society, one of them is the education of children.
Therefore, I am once again glad that through the Workation, I was able to join activities I personally consider as meaningful as well as future orientated and looking forward to further upcoming events within this year.
