Grixis Delver Guide feat. Tamiyo

Introduction

My name is wakarock and I have been playing Delver decks for over 10 years. I usually post the results of the Legacy Challenge on X (wakarock1). This time I will write about Grixis Delver, which I am adjusting for Big Magic Open Legacy (BMO) on August 17.
Note that this article is mostly free. Only the last part on sideboarding is charged.
(Note: A spreadsheet of the sideboarding list has been added to the paid part.)

Why Grixis Delver?

A  few weeks ago, when Modern Horizon 3 came out, I was playing RUG Delver with Questing Druid.

RUG Delver with Questing Druid

However, a card released in Modern Horizon 3 made me give up playing RUG.

Psychatog+Shadowmage Infiltrator

Looking at the results of the Legacy Challenge, no one is playing Questing Druid at all, and Psychic Frogs are having crazy results.

UB Scaminator is further strengthened by the addition of Psychic Frog , which has been the top tier before Modern Horizon 3.
I thought playing RUG was a bad idea, so I gave up on RUG and switched to a deck that could use Psychic Frog.
I turned my attention to Grixis Delver, a tempo deck that can use Psychic Frog, and initially decided to use the list of JUJUBEAN, the Delver master.

Grixis Delver with Psychic Frog 6.17

After changing some details of JUJUBEAN's list and running it on Magic Online (MO), I was lucky enough to go 5-0 in the first league and decided to adjust this for BMO.
The first list I tested has 3 Psychic Frogs because I was worried about colored mana, but the cards are too strong so I naturally went to 4. I changed Spell Pierce to Pyroblast, which can remove frogs, because I could not afford to set it up.
However, although I was able to go 5-0 in the first league, my winning percentage did not improve after that, and by the time I had played 80 games, I was 46-34( winning percentage of 57.5%), which was unsatisfactory.
It was at this time that I saw a decklist on X.

Encounter with Tamiyo

TrueHero, a well-known Death Shadow user, was 5-0 in the league with Grixis Delver with 4 Tamiyo.

Amazing one mana Plainswalker

I had known about Tamiyo itself, but had never tried it before because I thought it didn't match well with Delver. However, when I watched TrueHero's videos, I found that Tamiyo was very powerful. He won the game with Tamiyo despite a triple-mulligan, so I decided to give it a try right away.

Grixis Dever with Tamiyo 7.28

I decided to use two Tamiyo as a trial. Instead, I cut Delver and Murktide. In the original list, there were only four lightning bolts as removals, but I was worried about this in the Tamiyo-type, which wants to deal with the board, so I added Unhoky Heat and Pyroblast.

The results of the first two leagues were 4-1 and 4-1, which was quite favorable. I initially wondered about Tamiyo because it doesn't match well with Delver move, but I found that ultimating Tamiyo was faster than I had expected and faster to win than damaging with Delver.
When I have Delver and Brainstorm, it is often the case that if Delver were Tamiyo, it would be able to transform on the second turn.... I begin to consider increasing the number of Tamiyo to 4.

Current Decklist

From here, I will explain the current list. I am planning to participate in BMO with this list now.

Grixis Delver with 4 Tamiyo 7.31

Basics

4 Brainstorm 4 Ponder 4 Mishra's Bauble 4 Daze 4 Force of Will 1 Force of Negation

8 cantrips and 8 pitch counters are the tastes of a tempo deck. Bauble is an important for Delirium as well as a good match with Channeler and Tamiyo. Force of Negation is a pitch counter that works well with Frog and is especially valuable for being able to counter Chalice of the Void, Blood Moon, etc. when playing against Stompy decks.

Creatures

1 Delver of Secrets 4 Tamiyo, inquisitive 4 Dragon's Rage Channeler 4 Psychic Frog 2 Murktide Regent

After swapping the number of Delver and Tamiyo, Delver is finally down to 1. I thought it would be better to have 0, but I decided to keep 1 Delver because 3 Murktide would make the game slow when you have two Murktides or more.

Removals

3 Lighting Bolt 2 Unholy Heat 1 Pyroblast

Lightning bolt has been getting less and less targets to be removed recently, but it is still valuable to be able to target a player. I limited the number of copies of Unholy Heat to 2 because of the instability of Delirium. Some lists are taking Dismember, but I personally think it is too painful. There are quite a few decks that are not blue, so main Pyroblast is troubling, but the deck of your opponents will be blue if you go up. It is great at removing frogs. You can pick  black removal such as Fatal Push, but I think this deck is UR touching Frog, so I want to keep the black cards to a minimum.

Mana Base

3 Volcanic Island 2 Underground Sea 1 Island 8 Fetchlands 4 Wasteland

Since the base is UR, I don't think I want to make 3 Underground Sea. I don't think you need Island if 4 Delver type, but I personally think it is essential for a Tamiyo type which wants to secure 2 mana, because  Island and Tamiyo on turn 1 makes it easier to consistently play 2 mana on the next turn without being Wastelanded.

Sideboard

Sideboard can be divided into four main categories.

  1. Additional counters

  2. Graveyard Hate

  3. Countermeasure for Artifacts

  4. Countermeasure for lands

Additional counters
3 Pyroblast  2 Counterbalance 2 Force of Negation 1 Consign to Memory

4  Pyroblast in total for the main and side may seem excessive, but in an environment full of frogs, you can have any number of such cards.
There are some lists that do not have Counterbalance, but it is useful against UB and mirror , so I think I should have it in the current meta.

The newcomer is probably Consign to Memory.

Countermeasure for Eldrazi?

You can board it in against  surprising number of match-ups as well as Eldrazi and post. If you are not used to it, you could miss countering triggered ability.

Graveyard Hate
2 Grafdigger's Cage 1 Surgical Extraction

There are some lists with 2 graveyard hate, but I personally think it is better to have 3 in an environment full of UB Scaminators.

Countermeasure for Artifacts
2 Meltdown
This is a card that can be a reason to play red. It's stock has gone up a lot because of Urza's Saga. In this list, there is no bounce, so there is no countermeasure against Marit Rage, but there are not many Depth decks, so I think I have to ignore them.

Countermeasure for Lands
2 Price of Progress
This is also a countermeasure against Eldrazi, but it is also effective against Eldrazi, Post, Lands, 4C, etc., so I often board it in. It is comparable to Bloods Moon and Harbinger of the Sea, but I don't like that both of them are 3 mana heavy and they are sometimes harmful to myself because I only have 1 basic Island in your deck. I know some may arguementative that this list with reduced Delver may not be less pressure, but even with that, I think PoP is valuable.

That's all for the explanation of the list.
Thank you for reading this article! I welcome your comments and questions.
Below is the sideboarding for each archetype. I would be very happy if you are interested in purchasing!
